A few reasons:

1. One pro tune could cost as much as the HPT software, and almost every mod is going to require a retune.
2. There aren't a whole lotta shops that are familar w/ the LSJ.
3. I like knowing what was done, how it was done, and how to alter it to suit my needs.

I wouldn't really call what we're doing "hit or miss." It's a new product w/ new possibilities, so we're testing the limits. Intense did the same thing when they started tuning w/ HPT.

There's a LOT of thought and discussion going on w/ these modifications that you're not seeing on the forums.
