I can think of a couple of reasons not to use th K & N drop in....
Oil on the MAF sensor has been a reported problem.
I don't think the K & N does as good of a job filtering the air as the stock filter. As I see it the trade off is a few HP for more engine wear due to additional dirt getting in.
