well you can have the bung welded in. I took mine to midas and the did it for like 20.00 bucks. the bung should have came with a plug so that if you want you can unhook the sensor and drive with out having an exhaust leak. when you calibrate it yes it has to be to the ambient air. because your gauge calibrates by reading the amt. of oxygen in the ambient air. its like 21 % or sopmething like that. with that being said when your installing it the last step should be actually screwing the o2 sensor into the bung.
just read carefully and dont skip anything. youl be ok.
one more thing be sure that when you start your car to have power to the o2 sensor at all times if you dont you rin a very high risk of burning the sensor out very quickly.
