its not the top thats the major heavy part. its the convertible motor, and all the extra chasis stiffening (due to it not having a roof...).
actually ALL the wight is in the stiffenng, regardless of auto top or not.

To create stiffness in the frame alone (co planer) it will take exponentiall more mass than if it were not co planer (stiffening in the roof) the farther apart the stiffening is, the stronger it is, so to keep it strong when its all within 12" of itself takes A LOT of stiffening
