Alcohol is a diuretic (it makes you have to pee when you don't really need to) like caffeine and a few other things. This is why you piss just as much after shots of alcohol compared to drinking beers (and also why it dehydrates you). It may not be the fact you drink the extra water that makes you have to pee later but just drain the hatch a few times before you go to sleep.

I agree with the above completely. It also helps to eat some starchy foods (bread / crackers) to absorb it so your body doesn't get hit with all of it right away.
