BTW, dettlej, you know you can wire the screen to turn on with the PC right? It's actually quite easy. You just need to wire a small capaciter to the swtich, that will delay 'pushing' the button untill it has power. I read a how-to on mp3car, or whatever site it is

I thought of that. I was going to do it, but decided I want to turn the screen off well before I park or turn the car off. Would have been allot easier to ditch the buttons and the screen would of fit perfectly, but just having the brightness of the screen while parking in Santa Monica or something seems like I would be asking for trouble. As it is now I am worried, at least till I get the alarm hooked up.

Nice job man, can't wait to see the finished pics of it in the dash with everything sanded/painted.
It was the percieved price of the touchscreen that has always stopped me...

I just priced everything out last night... barring any disasters, I think I can have this ordered in the next 2-4 weeks, and not have to put off any of my other plans. Which already got set back...

What are you using for power? Car specific, or just an inverter?

I (personnaly) was going to use an inverter (1000+ watt) and install an outlet to plug in other things too. THat way my car charger and home charger for my phone could be the same.

The auto start-up / shut-down power controllers are the pi-zimp...

Man, as long as that computer is connected to your car (especially since its in the stock stereo location)...it is considered part of your car's stereo system. You will be covered for that by your insurance should it get stolen, so dont worry too much. Make SURE you keep your reciepts, tho.

I was always told that if it's aftermarket, even installed in the car, it's not covered... they said they insure the original car, not the modifications. Is that incorrect?

I have State Farm and my rep told me that as long as I keep reciepts of everything I do to my car it will be covered. So I bought a little binder with some page protectors and put recipts for everything I buy for it in a page. Showed it to my rep and he said it that that was perfect. So Im really not worried about anything getting stolen beside the fact that they dont make RL's anymore so i just starting getting VERY protective of my baby.

Direct listing about sound systems:
(My insurance company) will pay for loss to a sound system permanently installed by bolts or brackets or other means, its antennas or other aparatus specifically used with that system (as long as its bolted to the car)

And Alpha, out here in CA...ALL insurance companies only insure AFTERMARKET products (i.e. rims, bolt ons, exh, etc.) for up to $1000. So check with your agent, because there HAS to be a limit on aftermarket products. We have had a few STi/Evo's get hit and we only covered one part (exh. for $1K) out of many parts broken in the accident.
