Subwoofer airspace...

How do you determine this? Is it just a matter of the specific woofer, or is there a certain formula? They're a bit older, they're JL 12w4's... I think, I can double check as well. They're in a box in my Camaro, but it's a real wide box... specailly built to go into the 'well' of the Camaro.

Do you want to know how to calculate the enclosure's cubic ft., or what size is optimum for your subs?

6th order bandpass....

No, but really, what's the diff? From what I've always understood, ported are louder, sealed have deeper base. My current box is ported.

If you can get the Thile Small parameters you can calculate different tunings for the woofer. This will work for both sealed, ported or passive radiator.

Yes, ported give you higher output, but usually need to be bigger, sealed gives you "tighter" bass, more responsive, faster... Like Pierre says...I'm searching for your ts parameters now to find the best enclosure.

For a sealed box you would want 1.25 cu ft per sub, for ported you want 2.0 to 2.25 cu ft. per sub. I'll get some more details on tuning the ports...

Are they the 12W4-4, or the 12W4-D4, and how many subs do you have, 2 or 3?

12W4-4 are single voice coil, optimum ported box would be 2.25 cu ft. with a 4" vent 13.5" long
The D4's are the dual voice coil version, they are best in a 2 cu ft box with a 4" x 15.2" vent
This is per sub, so you simply double the box volume for 2 subs, and use 2 ports...

To calculate the volume (airspace) just multiply width " X height " X depth ", then divide by 1728 to get the cubic ft.
Sealed would be smaller/lighter, and easier/less expensive. If you are a basshead, go ported, if you just want good sound quality, and they were more than loud enough in your camaro, go sealed.

I'll check in a minute, just got back with my coffee.

It's two subs. Pretty sure they're the single voice coils, but like I said, I'll double check.

As it was, in the Camaro it was too much bass. Not to mention I didn't have a decent amp on the other 8 speakers in the Camaro. I would always have the amp turned down to about 1/3 and would still have to drop bass on the headunit.

Hey spoon, are you looking for a descent amp bacause I have a 2 channel 600 watt drive amp by crunch & a 5 channel alpine v12. the drive amp is used, but bumped the hell out of 2 12" zues 1250's. And the alpine v12 is brand new still in the box. I would be willing to trade for any kind of mods for an 04 redline. suspension, motor, header. I also have other car audio stuff. Just thought i'd ask. this offer goes out to anybody
