Adjustments on line out converters...

Is it basically a volume control?

I think they're actually gain controls. In short, yes, but if you were to say that to an audio guy they'd freak out on you.

Kind of like, more of an attenuator, the LOC is to match the output of the deck speaker leads to the input voltage of the amps RCA input sensitivity. If you have RCA outs on your deck, you dont need a LOC.

Yeah they're "like" a volume......meaning if you crank them up all the way then the signal going to your amp is gonna be "louder"

I have mine cranked all the way up on mine (Install Edge LOC from Best Buy)

If it weren't loud enough then you'd have to crank up the gain ("volume") on the amp.....so I think it's better to crank up the LOC (where no voltage is used) instead of putting more stress on the amp

they are NOT a volume control... what the dials do is match the level... in othe words on your amp you have gain controls these are the same thing. they also ARE NOT VOLUME CONTROLS..!!!! when adjusting the gain on the amp you need to adjust it to MATCH the incoming voltag signal from the radio or source before that amp. so say your head unit has 2volts of output.. (we verify with a dmm as well) you want to find the clipped point within these 2 volts (normally around 3/4 volume or so) now you adjust the gain to match this voltage so if the gain on the amp all the way down is 4v and all the way up is say 1v in the case of a 2v radio the gain would be adjusted to the middle point. the gains on the high/low work the same way. they are there to match the incoming signal. in many cases with them turned to far up you speakers will hum loudly and stop once the radio gets turned off... this is a case of improperly adjusted gains...hope this helped

also ^^^ you said no voltage in the loc... not true... take a dmm and measure to ouputs of the speaker leads with the speaker unplugged and turn the volume up.. the signal (volts) will increase... and time there is a piece in the rca line or speaker line you can measure voltage across that line

I have disrupted the audio gods

I was COMPARING the gain to volume.....I never said it was the volume....the gain controls the volts...I know that

Didn't know that that was the proper way to set up the gain though...very interesting.

And I had no idea about the LOC...I was just saying that it's not electrical/drawing power....but I guess it does?

lol it doesnt draw power it matches power... the loc by itself doesnt need any power to run.. it simply takes a input signal and adjusts 2 things to feed the amp.. impedance and voltage. it does pass voltage through it.

When someone is looking for layman's terms, I think a volume control is a good comparison... correct or not...

no not correct spooner ... yes it makes it "seem" louder but really you are overdriving the signal. the farther you go the more clipped the signal is the more noise/distortion and less of the actual music really comes through you can also blow stuff up that way.. clipped signal is NOT good for any audio components...it is for level matching not to turn up the volume.
