woofer mounting depth

Does anyone know the door woofer mounting depth for an 04 Redline with the advanced audio system?

I looking at getting some JL Audio components for the doors, but they have nearly a 2.5 in depth, that may be too big?

Well, I called crutchfield, and they said there is 2.21 inches of mouting room and the JL components are 2.44 inches deep. So they would probly need some kind of bracket or something. I might just go with the Infinity Reference components. They are a tad cheaper anyway.

Simple solution, get some wood, 1/4" or 1/2" thick (however much clearence you need) and a jigsaw and cut out some baffles/rings to mount under the speakers. Not only will they give you the clearence you need, but a wood baffle will also greatly improve the sound of the speaker too.

You might as well put spacer rings on them anyway. There is over an inch of clearance between the plastic door panel and the metal mounting surface. If you want to seal the speaker frame to the door panel, its easier to find and install 1/4 - 1/2" of foam weatherstripping than 1".

yes anything over about 2.25" will need a spacer to give you enopugh depth... the MAX even with a spacer before they hit the door panel is just a hair under 3" depending on the x-max of the driver.. if the x-max is to high the surround at 3" could hit the door panel remember to allow for driver clearance and to not allow the cone/surround to hit the door panle you will damage a speaker fast this way

Well I decided to go with infinity reference series speakers all around. the Coaxials in the rear(already bought them for $63.95 shipped from sounddomain.com), and the components in the doors. The components have a 2 1/16in. top mount depth.

Anybody have these model speakers that can give any feedback on them? just curious.

Well for the coaxials I'm assuming that you went with the Reference 6012i's, correct?
And I'm also assuming that you went with the Reference 6010cs components, correct??

Well the tweeters that are included in the component system look exactly like the ones I'm running right now.....so if you have the AAS system, those will fit in the tweeter panels like how I did mine (if you remember)

As for the coaxials you bought for the rear....I actually used those in my Dakota when I bought the truck a year ago (except I used the 6012si--shallow mount). I didn't have them amplified though & just had them ran off my Alpine HU. Those speakers (in all 4 doors) combined with the Infinity tweeters (that are now in the RL) produced the highs REALLY nice, but they totally lacked any bass response. I ended up just taking them out in the spring & putting the stock ones back in (I'm not driving it anymore anyways) since they had better bass response, and also the fact that the highs were killing my ears too.

You should've just spent the money on the component system only though....replacing the rears is pretty much a waste of time but it's your money/choice.

That's my 2 cents
