Need some technical assistance

I took apart a hansfree headset for my phone to rewire it and once I cut the microphone wire, I reconnected it and it doesn't work for some reason. How can this be? The is a white wire and a bare wire and both are connected correctly?

I have been going crazy trying to figure this out for 12 hours now.

TIA

Did you cut the wires separately or in one stroke? And with a metal component?

Cut in one stroke with small clippers. I made sure it was unplugged from the phone to prevent damage. I have two handsfree units acting this same way. I even tried to connect a brand new condenser mic to the wires on both headsets. No luck.

how did you recconect them?? make 150% sure the bare shield is not toucheing the inner wire... ive seen this a hundred time when taking apart a system that someone spliced rca's or similar wires... i recc solder to recconnect and what you should do if you dont have heat shrink is cut the one wire longer than the other so cut the braid shorter and the opposite on the other side so this way once they get soldered the one can be folded back away from the other than both taped off no chance of them touching that way
