new speakers

I just ordered a pair of Alpine SPS-17C2 speakers for my '06 RL from crutchfield. They have a RMS of 50 Watts and a peak of 250 Watts. What amp would anyone reccommend for me to power them. Eventually I'm going to replace the door speakers but thats later.

Ummm...those are gonna replace your door speakers....aren't they????

There are only 4 speakers.....so don't bother replacing the rear speakers....spend your money on the front "stage" & you're gonna wanna amplify them if you're not running subs to get the most out of them

As for an amp....that's all preference

You wanna get an amp that runs the closest to the RMS of speakers you are getting. So If u bought (4) 50W RMS speakers I would look for a amp that runs at 200W X 4 channels RMS minimum. Finding one with that will be pricey. Like Dan stated you prolly wanna just run the fronts with the amp or get an amp that does 50W X 2 Ch. RMS and screw the rears (too bad you already ordered the speakers, def. shoulda gone with componenets) get a sub and call it a day. Good luck

Yeah Choppstixxx is totally right

A set of components for the front amplified and a sub would've been the best thing to do, but it's your decision & your money

Yeah I totally agree with everyone about the front stage. Rear fill is just extra unnecessary weight, especially in a performance car. However, with the amp, IMO, the more power you have, the better/cleaner it will sound. Don't be afraid to give your drivers plenty of power, as long as you don't push them into unloading (heavy distortion) they will be fine. Get an american made amp like Xtant, MTX... We make the best amps, and they usually always make a lot more power than advertised, where as asian amps always promise thousands of watts, and make weak power.

Now whats this I hear about Alpine components not fitting in the doors? I just got mine (I work for BestBuy so they were cheap) and I'm looking at installing them soon...

Would I have to use a larger spacer and cut the door panel for them to fit? Cause I'm going tomorrow to order the AAS sail panels for the tweeters and if I'll have to cut the door panels I'll order another pair of those too...

lol you guys...... you can easily run much more rms than they are rated at as long as the amp and system are adjusted right... a decent 50 watt speaker will be fine on a 200-even 300 watta amp as long as once again i say its set up right..... dont worry about rms ratings btw.... if you understand how audio works you will rarely ever use even the 50 watts you are buying... normal listening levels are in the area of maybe 10 watts when they get cranked they can consume all of the 50 watts but only for super brief transient peaks.

having more power than recc = headroom... headroom is a GOOD THING... when you are pushing them to their limits having the amp peter out before the speakers IS A BAD THING this = CLIPPING.. CLIPPING THE SIGNAL = BAD VERY BAD... the number one reason people blow up speakers and subs is not that they are playing them to loud its due to the clipping of the signal and then this causes the speakers to become non linear in their stroke... or in other words sound distorted. a lot of people mis interpret clipping and dont know what it is.... BUY AS MUCH CLEAN POWER AS YOU CAN AFFORD AND DONT WORRY ABOUT THE RMS AS MUCH... now i dont mean to put 5kw on a 50 watts speaker.. i run 500 rms to just the 6.5 mid in each door. the tweeters get 150 EACH... yes i have "rear fill" but its hooked to a switch and only for rear passengers or the baby back there not for me otherwise. you would be better off buying a higher quality 25 watt amp than a cheap 50-100 watt amps also btw... buying clean watts is almost as important as having decent headroom... i can ramble on for hours lol
