8 ohms? Crap...my amp is rated for 400w at 4ohms, I don't think it would be nearly as happy with 8.

so what are the subs and the amp rated at your using with these 8's???

peak and rms of each sub?
dual voice coil? what resistance?
is the amp 2ohm stable? 1 ohm stable?
are you running these bridged? series?

you really have to have a perfectly designed system for 2 8's to sound better than 12's.

just wondering how the 8's sound better than the 12's

The subs & box are very compact, but I was expecting to see a custom molded box in the corners or a small fiberglassed box

It's waaaay smaller than what you had though, & if it sounds good and you're happy....that's all that matters

It is way too complicated to explain in a couple of paragraphs, but think concert halls, and acoustic effect.

Running a 400W amp at 8 ohms is PLEATY for these, we were using an 800W amp. It is not so much about power, but quality of power. Why do you think an Xtant amp for 1000W is like 2K or you can get one ant Joe's corner discount for $200.

The amp is 2 ohm stable, and yet it can be wired as such, however you are only gaining 3dB by doing so and there is no way it is worth stressing the amp like that. We ran full-tilt for about 1/2 hour with it and the amp did not even get remotely hot.

More power does not equil more output. Think about your car. If you do not have good shoes, you will just spin em', everything has to be a total package.

Dual voice coil means nothing, resistance means nothing (unless you are talking a specific frequenct at a specific phase angle) And bridge or series means nothing.

As far as power goes I will state it this way. The minimum recommended amplifier rating should be 200WRMS from 20Hz to 100Hz (good luck finding one that can deliver that for under a "g") with no more than .01% THD. You will fry a voice coil quicker by under powering than overpowering. However the box will handle up to 300WRMS average over the useable bandwidth, 600W peak.

As far as custom molding goes. Fiberglass sucks for sound. Period. You get surface noise, and WAY too many standing waves due to the lack of the ability to self dampen.

This box is about quality, moderate to mod-high output, reliability, and REAL bass (not just 40Hz buzz). Most boxes cannot boast useable output at 25Hz.

So when looking at acoustics from an engineering standpoint it makes it tough to go by number that really mean nothing once the product is done.

To understand the power match and why environmental tuning and efficiency are so important ultimately leading to 8's outperforming 12's... Read the following like on power. It may enlighten a bit.

Hope that helps!!!

I would tell you, but then I would have to kill you lol. I will not disclose that unfortunately, if everyone knew then I would not be competitave and it would be simple to copy my designs. I get them in bulk, and I have the factory remove all markings. I will tell you this, they weigh a little over 15 lbs each, and they are specifically designed for high power, deep bass applications where fidelity is the foremost concern.
