AAS, Custom headunit, and amp bypass help.

Hey all, just bought an 04 saturn Ion redline with the AAS system in it. I have a Alpine deck, two subs, and an amp for the subs I would like to install into my car. From my reading here I understand that I have to bypass the current amp to install a new headunit? How do I go about doing this without buying a harness? I know my way around a wiring diagram and soldering iron etc. I also live in a very small town in Alberta and have no access to Futureshop etc, just a local parts store that ordered me the mounting unit and some wiring harness (not sure if its the right one now).

Any help is appreciated! I cant go without my XM/Ipod and subs for much longer.

Thanks

Hello, welcome to the forums. I ditched the aas and re-installed my system in my '04 too. I just removed the whole thing, in tact so I could re-install it if need be. Also I wanted my system to play while parked with the doors open without the annoying door chime, so I just ran new wiring direct to the battery, no harness. I use external amps for everything (no deck amp) so I just ran all new upgraded speaker wires and everything. I installed a switch to turn off the remote turn on. It's really pretty straight forward running it like this.

Hmm ok, I was kinda hoping to avoid rewiring the speakers so I dont have to pull the door panels etc. off, but I suppose I can go that route if its the easiest.

You can use the stock speaker wires, but you'll need a harness in that case... or you'll have to cut splice and solder... You could get a harness and use whatever wires youwant out of it, or just plug it in. Hmm I see what you're saying about the aas amp now though, the stock speaker wires run from it... Never even thought about that aspect, but I'm sure they probably have like some sort of bypass harness to run your own head amp and use the stock speaker wires. Call Metra, they specialize in harness' and kits. # is 800-221-0932 . www.metraonline.com

Hey, thanks for all the help. Me and my friend were brainstorming tonight (my cars getting a clutch so I dont have it all week ) and wondering if I can wire the AAS amp into my deck using the remote wire, and use the amp to power the speakers instead of the new headunit? Or is it some special kind of amp that only works w/ the Saturn stereo? Also would I be able to split my remote wire into two to run both amps?
I'll probabbly come up with a thousand ideas between now and the time I get my car back.

I'm sure there's a way, might be straight foreward like any amp. I didn't pay any attention whatsoever when I pulled it but I think you maybe can run the RCA from the Alpine to it, but, how to set the gain.?... I didn't notice like I said, because the aas amp is so wimpy, it's pretty much the same as deck power.

Yes, you can most likely run 2 amps off your Alpine remote wire. Not super familiar with alpine, but I do recall an all alpine system i did with a class D sub amp AND a V12 for the front components, and I don't recall having to use a relay off the remoter turn on wire. Call Metra tomorrow and they will give you definite answers on the aas stuff, that's what they do all day is integrate aftermarket into oem systems, it's their specialty. i used to work for that company in daytona a long time ago. They're good guys and should be able to hook you up.
