prepping for track day--brake fluid?

hey guys. my '04 ion redline has about 60k on the clock and i'm taking it to my first track day (road racing) memorial day monday.

i'd like to flush the brakes and my question is: can i replace the DOT3 fluid with DOT4 fluid?

Yup, 3 and 4 are compatible, dot 4 absorbs water faster so change it at least every 2 years.

All you need in life is two things: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape.

Installed: K&N CAI, B&M shifter, IRotor cross drill rotors, Hawk pads, Vector 940 (soon hardwired)
Next up: CTI over axle bend with magnaflow

This is most likely the most over looked fluid on the car. Glad to see you didn't

GoldenChicken:

Just make sure it's a high quality/high temperature fluid (I'd suggest a DOT 4) that is new. Water is the big issue because old, dark fluid boils very easily with a lot fo water. I use Elf HTTX 115.

The factory brake fluid is good enough. A few weeks after picking up my RL from the dealer, I took it to a track day (really stupid btw) and lap after lap the brake pedal did not get spongy. After that, just to be safe, I started using Valvoline synthetic (high temp) dot 3 brake fluid.

my brake fluid was really dark and cruddy. i replaced it with high performance dot4 brake fluid for bmw racing applications.

the track day is the professional driver's experience at NHMS. it's at the top of the NER.org page, but it's probbly too late to sign up at this point. sorry dude
