My latest auto-x results

My best result in TSM thus far (I have a few 1st but that doesn't really count as I did not have any real competition).

As a note the 1st and 2nd place drivers were in a turbo 240, not the Evo this time.

My first run had me in the lead after the first few runs. The DNF is where I nearly spun the car.

I am very happy with this result. What a good battle

Nice work. Those Evos are not all they are cracked up to be.

Question.

Have you heard about a problem with the steering knuckles on these cars? I met up with a bunch of Cobalt guys and I showed them my video from last week. They said I should consider upgrading my steering knuckles. Up to that point I have never heard of a problems with them.

I have never had a problem with the stock knuckles. Aside from a curb jumping out in front of me last winter I would still be on the originals. I have been auto-x and taking the car to track days for 4 years now. At the local road course, Waterford hills, I drop tires, ride rumple strips, and hop curbs pretty often. The only thing that has worn quikly has been front wheel bearings. I expect to be on my 3rd set by the end of summer.

I wonder if it is just a cobalt thing. I was told of a story where GM held some sort of track day and brought out a few cobalts. I guess a few of them had problems with the knuckles breaking an the tire folding under neath the car. Do you have comp r tires?

Yep R-comps (v710's). Maybe I am just not driving it as hard as them. The knuckles are a known weak spot amongst the club racers and that is why GM released the comp knuckles. We use the exact same knuckles as the Cobalt and HHR.

The knuckles have nothing to do with dialing in more camber, they are just more beefed up. Camber is attained by slotting the lower hole on the strut to knuckle hole.

And the Evo's are fast and the ones in SM are generally heavily modded.

Do you have LSD? SN is alredline04 -> I am assuming 04RL....did you swap trannies...I cannot for the life of me get traction comming out of corners, I thought azenis would help a little..they only help going into corners faster, not comming out of them faster...I am saving as we speak ..

Yeah I swapped for an LSD trans this spring along with a spec 2+ and some Falken's. The combo works wonders with the 2.5 pulley. Only suspension mods I have are B&g springs a strut tower brace and the Bwoody end links. I tried a rear strut bar but did not like it. I the car is pretty loose in the rear. I like it.

FYI I run 41psi front and 32psi rear

Al, what did it run you for the tranny swap? I still have the non LSD in mine and was contemplating doing a tranny swap as opposed to installing a LSD into mine. Which trans did you use? (year, Model)

Congrats on the success in TSM, I just hit an autocross here and there now with the Red Line as I'm spending more time with the 3000GT VR4. I just had it down to Memphis Motorsports Park for a National Gathering. I did the RACE ON driver's school and the road course session with the group and could easily get the VR4 up to 140 MPH on their main straight (probably close to gingerman's straight in length), it was a blast.
