I am also 99.9% positive that puting the FE5 control arms on would bump you out of Stock class as they where never an option for our car.

Take a look at this thread

B&G and KW Variant make coilovers for IONs. But again those would put you in Street touring.

Actually, coilovers "in and of themselves" don't put you into ST. We discussed this a while back with my friend's Porsche 914. You cannot relocate the springs in Stock. This is OK, as our springs are already "over" the shocks. You may provide an alternate mounting surface for the springs, as long as it is in the same location as stock.

This means that you can do a coilover up front (not the rear) as long as you don't change the location of the upper and lower spring perches.

Now, whether this holds any real-world solutions for us is another story. I don't know what dimensions any of the coilover kits have.

I was told putting a 05-07 F35 transmission with LSD into an '04 Ion Red Line would take me out of the stock class as that wasn't available for '04.

Would or would not? If I remember the rules right it should not take you out of stock as the LSD was a option in the 05-07 and the rules alow for up/backdating of componints for the same model. But since the FE5 Susspension was only in the SS/SC and never a Redline we can't use that rule to use them and as such can't use the FE5 control arms because of the bushings. Now you mught be able to put the stock FE3 busings on the FE5 arms and get away with taht but why woudl you?

I don't race in the same style racing as you guys are talking about, I'm just reflecting what the rules for time attack/high-speed autocrosses around here are, and they count the LSD trans as not stock on an '04 but stock on an '05 -07.

FYI - there's no update/backdate in Stock. If what you are trying to do wasn't available in the exact car that's sitting in your driveway, then you can't do it.

For instance, my car has traction control (that's actually pretty good, as it cycles about as fast as ABS). This was available only on automatics. If you have a car with a manual, you can't add it.

Or, for another example, if my "sport suspension" (consisting of all the FE3 stuff) was only available as a package with either the 2.4L engine or the sunroof (I can't remember which one, but it was packaged with one of them), then you can't do the suspension upgrade without also installing the sunroof or engine.

Ok, like I said I don't know much about stock. I know the SM rules for SCCA SOLO II as that is what I run in.
