Auto-X wheels and tires...

Well, it's about 5 races into the season and my stock Dunlop's are about shot up front. I was in the market for a set of wheels (maybe 15" or 16"???) and some tires that don't suck on the track. I'd love any suggestions anybody has so let them fly.

I've been looking at tirerack.com and they don't really have any cheap wheels to throw some tires on. I was thinking about just getting an old set of Saab wheels since I think they came in 15" sizes.

Please HELP!!!

The l200 wheels fit. Azenis seem to be what I see the most at my local autox.

Make SURE that the rim will fit. There is a minimum rim size we have here. 16's you should be able to do, but a 15" is gonna be REAL tight. Figure the front rotors are 11.6", that's not a of room for a 15" rim to fit over...

Check www.tires.com

That is where I got my street wheels for 100 bucks a piece. I use my factory wheels for auto-x. I have Kuhmo victoracers. I like these tires alot and after five auto-x and one open track driving school they are holding up great. These are the only tires I have run though. A ton of people use the Falken Azienis RT-215 and swear by them. I forget which hoosiers are hot this year. I hear they are based heavily on the spec miata tire and they are awsome. I believe these may be it http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ireModel=R3S04
I may be trying these next year if I need to replace the Kuhmo's.

MrClean - you need to look at how much space between tire and brake calipers.. not more than a finger in width.... what i want to do is just buy a second set of rims/tires for autocross - lightweight dedicated... and you look at my tires next autocross. they did lot better than the blizzaks.

I hate to go against you here, Xau, but if you're going to get race-only tires, go with a dedicated competition tire, such as the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Yokohama Advan A048, or Pirelli pZero Corsa. These have tread patterns that you can use on the street, but they're better to be shaved & heated up properly for use on a track. Be careful though - you think these Dunlops wear fast, competition tires have treadwear ratings of about 40, so they'll last you about 1000-2000 miles before they give out. Good luck with your racing though. Above all, have fun.

Over & out.
