n00b preparing for next year...

Ok...so most of the stuff in the SCCA rulebook is pretty self-explanatory. The only thing I had problems with was, determining which class I would be in. (I just need a translator to read me the rule book in "Racing for Dummies" terms )
These are my (current) mods...
Body:
None
Engine:
CAI
Cat-Back
Engine Mounts
Short Throw Shifter
Suspension:
None
Braking:
Slotted/Drilled Rotors

Now I know that stock is basically just that, all stock.
Then there is Stock Touring, which means that my mounts, rotors, CAI and STS would be, OK...
Then there is stock modified...

What class should I shoot for?
Should I De-tune (i.e. remove the parts that will bump me up a class) for race events?

Another note...
I will be getting a H/E very soon,
am looking into getting into the 60#ers,
HPTuners,
am looking at getting a few suspension mods,
and possibly getting some different rims/tires for racing...

What class would that put me in then?

All help is appreciated, while opinions should only reflect which class I should go into (and be fairly competetive)

You're probably in STX

Given the mods you described, particularly the motor mounts and short-throw shifter, you're most likely in STX (a street tire class). If you don't talk about the motor mounts and the shifter (assuming, of course, that you have the stock shift knob), you can certainly talk your way into D Stock (DS) -- and you can run DOT slicks in DS. I run in DS with Kunho or Hoosier slicks (depends). On the other hand, if you ever intend to run in a National Tour event (or a ProSolo event) or ever want to go to the Nationals, you will definitely be tossed out of DS during tech.

Here's a slightly dated (2004) but pretty good description of what is allowed in each general classification -- NoviceGD.pdf

Enjoy
