sandbagging during autocrossing/road racing?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if i'm allowed to sandbag during autocrossing/road racing to even out the weight distribution?

In my club, and OBVIOUS attempt at changing the weight distrubution will result in a point. So it depends on what your rules state. I just came across that rule last night, looking over suspension points. Now, I don't know what they would say if you simply add weight. They were looking at it from a 'relocate parts of the car into the trunk' sort of manner. Since weight slows you down, but weight in the right place speeds you up, you might have a case to make for it to be allowed.

My best time last weekend I had a passenger. I think the extra 100lbs on the right may have helped. But I know SCCA rules say you cannot have anything loose in the car. You even have to take out the floor mats. So putting sandbags in the car may not be possible for safety reasons.

well you could always drill holes on the frame and bolt up as much weight as you want. that way it is easy to change your setup.

that's what I had in mine as well, taking out the spare tire and putting removable weights that you use to bench press on the bolt thing that sticks out in the trunk. Then use something to tighten it down so it doesnt fly around..

leave my trunk intact just leave the sparetire and jack out. Tech might not even find it..

Speaking of weight..I'm still trying to figure out a good excuse to use at the racetrack for not having my rear seats..I'm thinking the 'They were stolen' excuse is sounding good..but replacing everything with sheets of carbon fiber and carpeting over it will be a tad hard to explain..

you want your weitht as low as posible. that is why I figured metal plates bolted under the car. cut them in 5 and 10LBS and you have adjustable balancing.

Yeah we run well over 150lbs.(including 2 batteries) of ballast on the truck. It's all in the very back where the chute mounts tie in, but it is different for the strip. Having the lowest center of gravity like rice says definetly makes the most sense to me also, especially on a race course. A 2nd battery is always a good way to do it provided that it's possible to, and makes sense to mount it where you need the wieght, the bottom of the spare tire well is pretty low too.
