Helmet

Any recommendations on helmets for a novice - I think I'm racing on Sunday, and I'll just use their loaners for the day, but I gotta feeling I'm gonna get into this, so I was wondering where I should start when it comes to getting a helmet.

What price range am I looking at? What should I be looking for? Where can I buy?

Thanks!

Did you already check their requirements? Is there particular ratings that you need? They're not exactly cheap, but they're not outrageous if you look around. Finding a cheaper one will usually require mail order though.

That's a good question - since I'm going to be doing a lot of moving around in the next 6 months, I haven't really pick a single club/org to stick with...maybe I'm a little ahead of myself.
Are there general standards used across the board, for the most part, or does it vary a lot between organizations?

What about fit, if I go into a shop this weekend, what kind of fit am I looking for - snug/tight or some room to breathe?

A little ahead of yourself, but that's ok!

Heres my requirements:

Helmets:
A Snell approved helmet, with sticker, is required and will be inspected at Technical Inspection. All
helmets shall include a sticker indicating a Snell SA (recommended) or M1995, or later, Rating.
5.4.1 It is highly recommended that helmets include a Snell rating of SA 1995, or later.
5.4.2 Drivers of open cars shall wear goggles or face shields. It is highly recommended that all drivers equip
themselves with full coverage helmets.

The important part of that is the Snell rating...

I agree about the Snell rating, but SCCA is actually recommending 'Open Face' helmets because they have seen injuries using full coverage helmets with air bags. As a result I bought a cheaper open faced helmet last year.
