It all depends. Say you get the larger idler pulley. Making up for that half inch in diameter is making up for the length travelled. Hell...its almost like you could (if it was possibly, but isn't) switch the stock s/c pulley for the idler pulley, which would give you a 2.5" s/c pulley...the belt will travel the same length of distance. The belt will have more slack when it is at different rpms because it could get loose at the top of the idler pulley of the backside.

To figure it all out you will need to take Pi (3.14159627...) times the diameter of the pulley. You will then have to multiply it by the percentage of the belt that the pulley covers to actually see how far the belt travels.

there you go, now you got that "basic" math going....I used autocad and that "basic" math to come up with 1.5" belt increase in length. angle/360 *pi*d

So what the hell does that all mean?

I got my 2.7 and 76mm idler. When I installed it it slipped once at the top of 3rd gear. Boost went from 19 to 14 to 16 to 15 and then I let off the gas. Havent had it slip again since though. I didnt have the bypass on and I think the bleeding of all that boost may of caused the blower to act up a little bit

alrite i'll try and settle this becasue i'm useing both the BF 2.9 and 2.7 on my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you bump up to a 76mm idler then you'll be fine....yes theres some slack on the 2.7 but not enough to cause slip

think of it this was...with a 2.9 a 76mm idle keeps STOCK belt tension so when steping down to a 2.7 your not going to have much slack at all so you'll be fine with a 76mm idler for both the 2.7 and 2.9

if you dont beleve me go a head and ask Doug from BilletFlow he did the math while we were at his shop one day....we all know Doug knows what he talkin bout.

BilletFlow also has the idlers
