Why not cool the whole system?

What does ice do? It removes a certain amount of heat from the I/C cooling system, right? Introducing a limited amount of ice to a warm or hot closed system will lower the average temp of the system by several degrees. Let's guess down to 70 or 80 degrees. Charge temp at what? 85 to 95 degrees?

Now let's run the low pressure A/C line through the Billetflow tank. This line contains 10 to 20 degree refrigerant. As long as this line is kept cold (A/C running) and the I/C coolant is flowing (engine running) the whole system will attempt to equalize at 10 to 20 degrees. Subtract heat gains and you may end up with an average temperature in the 30's or 40's. Add to this an extra 1/2 gallon of Dexcool in the reservoir and you have some serious heat-removing capacity. I could run some real numbers to give a theoretical run times but I would think a minute or two run time is within the realm of possibility (although I have no idea how much coolant is in a stock system). That takes care of all the drag racers and with more modifications maybe even the short road races.

Caveats? 1.Don't forget to turn the A/C off before launching. 2.The biggest problem is that the radiator is always trying to equalize the system back to ambient temperature (temperature-controlled radiator bypass?). 3.With A/C off, it is a static system (closed throttle switch to turn A/C on while slowing?). 3. Wow. This is already getting complicated but how serious are you?

BTW, the A/C low temp line is regulated so as to not freeze up the condenser. You can get temps lower than 10 degrees. Dexcool freezes at -34 straight but even mixed with water, -20 is achievable but loses heat transfer efficiency.

But can you say "My intake charge temp is 50 degrees."?
