Every car has a sweet spot in the tranny to where you dont need the clutch. Just need to learn it and learn it perfectly.

Used to powershift ine my 97 sc2 all the time and i didn't have any tranny problems. Never tried it in the Red Line though since it was so fast.

I have no problem recommending "power shifting" as long as your reaction time is EXTREAMLY good.

Now on that note: I can tell you personally that I have never done this on my RedLine yet, however I would not recommend anybody do this until you have purchased and installed something to the effect of a true Short Shifter (ie, B & M) simply because I dont find are car to shift nearly as smooth as an import (Honda) and feel that someone will either get there gears stuck somewhere between 1 & 2 or 3 & 4.

Otherwise, until then give her hell & enjoy the ride....

Cheers,

That would be me. The Only time I do it in my semi is when I am downshifting in low-range. I use the clutch on take off, than my left foot stays on the floor, just rev it out, let off, grab the next gear with some hesitation to let the engine and tranny match, and go again. Do that all the way up to 9th gear, Than when I am ready to come back down just blip the throttle to kick it outa gear. When it is in neutral rev it up to match engine and tranny speeds and catch the next one down. I do that all the way down to 5th. When I get into low range (4th) I double clutch because Theres only about 3-5 mph difference between each of the low gears so you gotta grab them quick. Your SUPPOSED to double clutch all the way up, and all the way down. I just don't like to do all of that clutch work so I skip it, lol.

In a car................It is just pointless. The only thing that I do that resembles double-clutching in a car is when I come into a corner real hard and get on the brakes. I gotta slow way down, so I will push in the clutch and rev the engine, than drop 2 or 3 gears so that My rpms don't shoot from 1.5K to 6K when I let the clutch out. I am already at 6K when the clutch is released.

That some good advice for newb's right there. If you dont do that before taking a high speed turn, you could end up locking the front tires or swinging out the rear. I've seen a few cars slam into gaurd rails and curbs like that. Heel & toe braking has saved me more than once.

2000 rpms, let the clutch out at a medium pace and hold the gas pedal somewhere around 60-75% until the wheels aren't about to rip into a spin, and then foot to the floor and ride it as high as possible...

That is what I do down to the word...but for fun sometimes I let the clutch out slower and a little more gas...yes, yes i know..it's not good for the clutch to be feathered and pounded on...and make a very very nice smoke show (with no brakes) while having somewhat of a decent launch.

Lol there's a video (somewhere) of a guy in Pontiac attempting a burnout. You see a lot of smoke coming from the wheel well, then it zooms in and you can see that he's doing nothing more than frying the clutch. Pretty funny.
