Engineers know more but they're always gonna have to answer to the bean-counters. Its my contention that GM could build the best cars in the world but at the cost of a profit. It would be nice to let all the bean counters have 1 year off just to see what GM would get done............

yes but what if they had certain emisssions or noise retrictions? Then the engineers only know what they are allowed to do and aftermarket can improve on those features. If you telling me that the engineers know best look at the headers on a stock lincoln mark 7. You can gain 30 hp just swaping those out.

The mark 7 is a luxury car. It's made to be quiet. Same with most cars.

It's made with those restrictions in mind, of course. The emissions are taken care of at the cat, and noise in the intake and exhaust. We're not talking about those simple things though. This started with a guy having "i/h/e", CAMS, no cat, etc. I'm assuming the 30hp is dyno proven, AND also consider, most companies will compare dyno numbers on a car that is already tuned with other parts FOR their part, so that when their part is out, a lof of power is lost. That way they can claim higher numbers.

Come on, these people aren't stupid, they know more than they're allowed to do.

The bean counters come from using cheaper materials, or manufacturing using cheap labor, as GM does by closing plants in the US to open them in other countries. Also, processes such as using cast instead of forged, and using robot bolts, so a machine can line them up and torque everything down for you.

Why cost the profit? Charge an arm and a leg, why not.

What would the best cars in the world be?

The tires barked (into second). I didn't hear the engine.

Did you want the engineers to make a tire muffler?

You would need to develop better muffler bearings for that.
