well GTI seems to be local, i told him im down for a couple of runs.

hopefully hes got a video camera to get this on tape.

I'll admit the 1.8T was the first car i looked at when looking for 4banger performance. its just the 23,000 price tag wasnt justified. SRT-4 never would buy a Dodge, but looked at a WRX non STI really was interested but no GM discount?? i saw the Redline sitting at a dealer I knew nothing of it untill i did some research on here, and for 16,500 it was mine.

With just a chip, you can get a golf into the mid 14's, and some have touched low low 14's with a great driver. Put on a Turbo back exhaust, and a CAI, and a FMIC, and you will see 100+mph and high 13's with drag radials.

BTW, at 40mph, our turbos are fully spooled.
I don't care what you think since i know from past experience (happened just last night) that i can beat your beloved golf. As i mentioned in the post that started this thread he was running 20 psi with intake, cat back exhaust, and a BOV. I easily walked him off the line and from a 40 drop, his little turbo would struggle to get him through third gear. It was what any race against a mildly modded VW Golf is like, easy and boring. His buddy with the mildy modified GLI (chip, intake, BOV, and cat back) was a different story. From a 40 drop he would keep up till third then i would slowly start to pull on him, by fourth his front bumper was at the end of my front fender. From a stop light i'm pretty sure i would have taken him a little easier, but none the less it just goes to show that even the GLI is faster than your little golf. Oh and by the way I have a completely stock Saturn Red Line.

If you want you can go search around your VW forums and look for a Golf and GLI in Tx, that have euro plates that say spool'n on them and interrogate them to find out if they raced a blue saturn with the dealership vanity plate still on it. Then, if they have the maturity to say yes, you can scold them for losing to a "saturn". If they, however, have the audacity to say that i'm full of shit, then let them know i'll be waiting for round two whenever they're ready.

You are right about the eaton 4. I dont know what parasitic power they require to turn, but I know that all S/c take power to make power. I dont think its that fair to race a stock Redline to a stock golf, since the redline has more power stock. The $500 chip for the VWs makes them closer to your guy's cars. That would be like me wanting to go race a little stock Honda Civic.

I wasnt trying to start a fight with you guys, I in fact have never even came upon a Redline in Cincinnati. They must be a fairly limited production model. If I came off as wanting to argue with you, I appologize.

You guys are more than welcome to come check out our site, but please dont join just to start a fight. We wont attack you like spooner did, or tell you to leave, unless you are just plain disrespectfull. GTI nor I attacked any of you, or your cars.

By the way, I have plenty of car experience, and enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, and gaining knowledge about other cars from others.

Enjoy your factory modded cars, I wish VW/Audi would learn from the rest of the car makes out there.

Well when "Blackline" and I can get our schedules right we have a race set up. We can go from 40mph and a few digs and he can post the results here in this thread.

From eaton, around 10 - 40 hp at 12.5.

Personally, I don't get the turbo/SC debate. Turbo is not free - back pressure costs hp. Lets not forget old-fashioned displacement. Hell, my old 1988 Vette gets practically the same mpg and will probably squeak by the Redline in a race. Each approach has advantages and disadvantages. In the end all that matters is hp to the ground and fuel economy. Show me a 13 second car that gets 40 mpg highway and you have my interest.

If you are looking for pure power, I think it is clear that a turbo is the better way to go. But a SC is much more practical. But why not both? Let's come together and talk about twincharging!

I also considered the Golf--but would have taken the VR6 over the 1.8T. As has already been said, you are a crack smoker if would pay 5k more for less performance for a car that breaks down more than almost any other car on the road. The germans need to get their act together again. . .

Definitely! A turbocharged vr6 is a major force to be reckoned with!
