Best Tuner Magazine

I have waisted many a dollars trying magazines out and am always left wanting more.

If I wanted T&A I would buy Playboy.

So many articles are dedicated for guys who want to rip out their engines and spent thousands to bringing their cars up to our level. GM has done a good job at doing the basics (supercharger, suspension, wheels, etc...)

I am looking for a magazine to help the average Joe who is looking to spend $100's, not $1,000's to dress up their car and add some modest Hp.

To me the power of a magazine is product reviews, I want to know if the manufacturer claims for their bolt on widget came up short, delivered on the nose or surpased expectations.

To sum it up...

What is your favorite mazine and why?

hmm, I've given up on about 90% of them. From what I see at the store when browsing, not many have anything to offer. I hate to say it, but in MY experience, Sport Compact Car has some good tests like that, but I hate 90% of it, and their reviews of cars all seem terrible.... I have seen quite a few dynos of different mods for different cars, but usually something that would never apply to our cars...

Well since the internet has come on the scene magazines are useless.I can learn more about my car or any car I own in the future from searching the web.Magazines are about 60 days behind the times if I want info about the redline this is the place to come.

The internet is a great tool for performance. Especially forums. However... Opinions spread like cancer and end up becoming "fact". I remember way back when they said the LL0 (S-Series) "couldn't" handle more then a 35 shot of nitrous or like 4 PSI... Now we got guys laying down 300+ HP with like 20 PSI on that engine and guys running 75 shots for years...

Earth is flat... Earth is round

it's true, a lot of stuff on forums is bs and turns into fact eventually..

Guys who write in magazines usually have engineering degrees and know probably just as much as WopOnTour. Come to think of it why doesnt Wop write for a mag.

He can be like that Techno geek on SCC mag, try to stump that geek you can't! He knows way too much useless and useful car knowledge.

I really don't favor one over the other except for Import Tuner, sometimes they are just way too juvinile for my taste.

Exactly, "Import Tuner". Thats the problem I have. I dont want to read SOLELY about imports and that seems to be the majority of what I see in those mags. I get tired of reading about Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, etc. Non imports get the half page article, if that.

Grassroots Motorsports has seemed alright, and more in line with what you're looking for. SCC is okay.

I find myself reading Super Chevy, Car Craft, and various other Chevy V8 mags. The magazines out there for compacts are a joke. I don't own an import, and that's what all of the compact mags lean towards. Plus I damn sure don't want to see a magazine with 80% of the pages dealing with JDM doritooo cars, which a lot of cover that also.
