EVO IX vs. Sky RL (A comparison...)

---
Just to compare...

Mitsu EVO IX
286 hp@6500RPM
289 torque@3500RPM
Curb weight: 3263 LBS
LBS/HP: 11.41

Saturn Sky RL
260 hp@2500-5300RPM
260 torque@5300RPM
Curb weight: 2900 LBS
LBS/HP: 11.15
---

---
Alright, I've assume no added weight and bhp for the RL. If we assume that there will not be substantial weight difference but take 30hp off for drivetrain loss...

230hp@2500-5300RPM
LBS/HP: 12.61

So then what HP do we need to match the EVO's LBS/HP numbers?

2900/11.41= 254.16WHP
---

---
Sooooo.... here's the REAL question....

$28,000 SRL vs. $32,000 Mitsu EVO IX

Can I buy a Saturn Sky RL, mod it for less than $4000 to match a stock EVO on the track? Not a doubt in my mind.
---

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the EVO IX is worth every penny. I'm sure the AWD-traction-monster experience is everything it's cracked up to be. Do I think that there will be some slightly-modded SRLs putting a car or two on EVOs? Absolutely.

you can't evenly compare a car that is not even in production yet..

I can, and I did. My only intent was to predict that the Sky RL will be a close competitor to the EVO IX. Obviously the driving styles are entirely different - people that like the feel of an AWD, Rally-inspired car may not appreciate the road-hugging RWD roadsters (and vice versa), but it *is* a decent comparison of road-going power.

Even though the Sky RL hasn't been retailed to dealerships yet, the power output is pretty much decided at this point (as is the sticker price). I would think that this is the only way we CAN compare these cars right now. Besides, you took the liberty of comparing the S2000 and Miata to the Sky RL in the other thread, so I can compare all I want here.

Ian

yes, I was wrong I know, but you really can't because unless it's on the dealer showfloor it isnt finalized.

However i do agree its an unfair comparison, mainly due to the low productiong numbers of the sky, the lack of aftermarket that will occur for at least 2 years, and the yet to be determined real whp numbers off the gm rating system. I think 260 is a high number, and the wheel power will come in around the 215 220 range.

Why not? There are Sky Red Lines floating around, but people within GM are driving them. As a matter of fact Road and Track had a big article on it and GM said the 1/4 miles times for it was a mid 13's. So I'd say it will be damn close if not exaclt y what they say. GM was dead on the 1/4 mile times they announced for the Red Line Ions before they went into production.
