Unhappy Inside of Catylitic Converter Melted ????

OK on the 93 Civic EX the exhaust fell off a few months back. We replaced it with a direct bolt-on Magnaflow Cat and pacesetter exhaust.....it was the cheapest way to go.

Anyways there was an exhaust leak so today I decided to jack up the car and make my own gasket out of that gasket paper. Well I took the cat off and you know the few layers of honeycomb looking stuff well yea there was only one left and You saw the other ones mostly melted AWAY!!!

Now what caused this?

I just put it all back together it still works just not how it was designed to lol.

Oh yea replaced the PCV valve also when I pulled the old one I noticed it was the OEM PIECE 150k+ miles ouch it didn't rattle to much well almost not at all.

Well looking forward to your responses.

Cats just go bad I had three replaced on my jeep within 30000 miles.A mod of old was to split the cat and take the guts out it made your car run so much better.I dont think that would work now with all the computer stuff.

It's just odd its only a few months old and you wouldn't expect it from a name brand like Magnaflow.

It has maybe 6000 miles on it. Heck it's an old car im just leaving it on.

Ever think about buying a test pipe? You can pick one up for a civic for almost nothing.

Get better MPG, most power for your dollar, it won't ever go bad.

Win, Win, and Win..

Except if you get pulled over by a cop who knows how to sniff out a no cat car.

Don't really need much power in the civic I already get 38mpg with it and since the cat is almost completly melted out inside...............it's pratically a test pipe already lol.

a friend of mine kept going through cats in his truck for some reason. Sound similar to this. I will talk to him and see what caused it.
