Computer help

Hey guys I'm having a problem with my PC, and this one is giving me some trouble.

It just recently started locking up and I mean locking up hard. No ctrl alt del no nothing. It started when I would be using IE and then lock. Power off reboot. Slowly it got worse. Soon I was only getting just booted when it would lock.

I came home to it tonight and went to turn it on. It got to the boot up sound and locked up. I restarted it... Barely made it passed the beginning bios boot screen ... locked... Reset again... Locked up at bios.

So I turned it off for about 10 minutes. Got into windows... locked up. Then once again same scenario as above. The more I tried the more the lock ups came.

I thought maybe my hard drive so I unplugged that and booted but it didnt help. I have changed nothign on this computer since I built it so I dunno why this is starting now.

I read on a few other forums to try and pull my CMOS battery and see if that helps. I'm going to try that when I get home... Until then... any ideas?

bout 6 months. Only thing old and used on it is my floppy drive.

Bought all new parts. Nothing super expensive but no junk. It literally just started giving me hell... Absolutely no problems no crashes no nothing. Now it's lock up city.

Heat? All the fans are spinning? Check all the Capacitors and make sure none are bulging and have "spuss" oozing out. (I love telling people to check for that!) There was a bunch of Caps that the MB makers used that were junk. If your board is an older one and you only bought it 6 months ago it should be covered.

If all that checks out, pull everything out of your computer..RAM, NIC, Floppy, HDD and any other cards in it but the video. If that still doesn't work try a different vid card. I prefer a basic PCI card, nothing special just something that works. You could also try a BIOS reset.

If all that fails, post some info on the components in your machine. That may point to something......

This is exactly why I have built my last system. It's just such a pain in the butt when something doesn't work. Why would I troubleshoot my own computer when other people pay me $100/hr to fix theirs? It's like when I was working as a cook in college, I never cooked at home. Of course, that may have been more to do with the fact I couldn't afford food but you get the point

All fans are going. Comp doesn't do a whole lot to run hot and my temperature always said it was in a good range.

I'm going to try a bare bones boot when I get home and see what happens.

If you can get into BIOS (and your BIOS supports this) check the voltages coming from the PS.
