Holy crap! The car looked like a freaking rag doll!

While I was in Europe my friends and I had the urge to run up to one sitting at a stoplight and push it over. I see that happening to at least one person if not several when they come over to the states.

These videos of Smart Car crashes crack me up
For one the SC is billed as a "comuter car" and as such not one designed for collisions and any real high speeds.

But at least this one's a wee bit more objective and realistic than that stupid Top Gear SC crash test they did last year into an angled concrete barrier
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...79&q=smart+car
The Smart Car's lower mass, and extremely stiff space-frame combined with the lack of crush works against it and during almost any full engagement frontal collision at highway speeds is going to result in some very nasty - acceleration and extremely high levels of jerk forces. Can they spell Dale Earnhardt ??

Airbags alone wont be of much help, but additional ride down time from things like seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters will help immensly

They really need to provide accelerometer data in order to asses the occupant "g" exposure and injury potential in these informal video tests IMO. Maybe even injury exposure results from a "Smart Dummy"

Looking at the levels of physical damage to the car and even passenger compartment distortion/intrusion is pretty much much meaningless if your brain is pudding...

Wop

That would suck!!!

I can see it...

A young liberal couple just bought their new smart car and their so prod.

But just then two big jocks run up and hit the un-expecting couple’s car like it is was a sled in hell week at football camp, BAM the car topples over!!!

Funny but that would suck.

Some poor sap in high school drove a rusted-out Renault (rust is implied really) with a big hole in the floor. A bunch of guys picked it up and sat it over a pole at the edge of the parking lot.
