Quieting the exhaust....

Ok my exhaust drones why to much I hate it on longer trips. I currently have a 3" exhaust with a 30" resontor i think thats why it drones so bad. I was thinking about replacing the resonator with 2 12" Moroso Spiral Flow but only have them @ 2.5" pipe size but leave the rest of the exhaust 3". I know it will hurt performance but do any of you think it will quite my exhaust done more then what it is?

seriously? the 2 1/2 wont hurt it. yes it will restrict it a little but not enough that you should notice it

I have to agree with Redn8r3 unless your making or plan on making 350 HP or more then theres no need for a 3 inch exhaust. I know you would be sad to let her go seems you were like the first one on here that I can remember to have a 3inch exhaust. but its harder on a 3 inch exhaust to get rid of the droaning. the way that its usually dont though is to have a tuned exhaust what i mean by that is the resonator and the mufflers baffles have to cancle the different frequencys (or soundwaves out) when this happens it results in a quiter exhaust but sometimes more then not in the performance world that means more restriction which usually means loss of power.

Wouldn't by going to 2.5" pretty much in the whole middle of the car slow down the exhaust gases enough that it will quiet down the rest of the exhaust?

yeah but by doing that your pretty much doing what they did from the factory. but yours will still be a little larger. its going to reduce power but i dont think it will be enough to notice it i would say maby a few HP on the dyno if that. I say go for it if the droaning is bothering you that bad.

Well the last 2 1/2 hour drive sucked. And when I go to the city. 45min away it sucks. And i don't like to take our 93 Civic just because it is old.

the 3" in/out will slow the gases down some...why not just 2 of THOSE??? Less work getting them to mate up with the rest of the exhaust...

I just don't want to spend $100 and have it sound the same as it did before.
