Angry Blew The Transmission!!!

Okay, So... its saturday night (or sunday morning) about 2:30am... and my buddies and i are on the way home from doing some runs... and we dicide to do one more... a three way... my redline VS my buddies 08 WRX and my other friends CRX.... we all have some things done... none of us are stock s o we decided to go for it.... now of course the wrx got me and the crx out of the hole... i pulled on the crx right off the bat. and started going after the wrx.. so i get into the top of fourth and im steady pulling on this wrx... and i saw that he wasnt letting up so i decided to go all-out.... now on a side note i RARELY go into fifth gear while running because i have a Very bad synchro in fifth... but i decided to go into 5th anyways... BIG mistake... all i heard was a grind and then i had no gear.... it was stuck inbetween neutral and fifth... i was coasting off of the freeway and yanking on the shifter trying to get it to pop out ( unsuccessfully ) and ended up pushing the damn thing into this parking lot where i began rippping the console out and messing around with the linkage and such... NO DICE... i had to pull it home with my freind's truck... now... during the tow i kept yanking and yanking till i finally gave up.... but then after like 10 miles of towing the damn thing popped out of whatever gear/not gear it was in and we pulled over... i began to drive it and it seemed fine at least untilkl i tried putting it into 5th... it was where 5th was supposed to be... but it was just free spinning... so... long story short... aamco has my car and they are performing a rebuild... so well see how it goes form here....

I've heard that a rebuild on these is pricey and most times you are better off finding a used tranny. Is this true? I know that if I had a tranny problem I'd try to find a used LSD tranny and convert it for my 04.

I had to get a new transmission in my old car (94 Integra). It wouldn't shift into reverse. All the other gears worked great, but it just wouldn't shift into reverse. Ended up just puttin in another used transmission.

we rebuild them all daylong 600 plus parts...its not difficult if you are equipped... most issues begin with poor/fast/sloppy shifting with hard driving, then with wheel hop and poor cable adjustment or a short shifter, but once set the cables at least in my 30 k miles are fine even with a trans in and out; thats was for an lsd install and the btw the trans was better after being taken apart no parts replaced other than the collapsible spacer etc and the lsd added...

I remember you doing one, but I also remember another one being taken apart very recently. I just can't remember what forum it was on.

nah.. i checked the cables... 8they are fine... but i bought the car with a bad synchro so who knows how the owner before me drove... and the word on the street from aamco is that 5th is gone. it is just not there... all of the teeth on the gear look like nubs... but luckily im getting steal! only 295 plus parts! its so awesome when the person who does your car gives you a set price before really looking into what he's getting himself into... lol it took them 8 hours to remove the tranny and crack it open.. now im waiting for parts... so well see what the damage totals up to...
