Oil Change

Any one here changed their own oil in the cars?
i search the forums and it didnt find any thing.

Real question for those that have dont it, where is the oil filter??? i cant see it from the top.
Send if its hidden what do i have to take off and do i need any tools for it?

and how much oil does it hold i hear like 7 quarts but cant find my manual any more.

And does changing the oil my self with GM rated oil and filter voise my waranty?

Thanks in advanced

I do my own oil simply because I have trust issues with other people when it comes to my car. The oil filter is actually on top of the engine underneath the throttle body. You will see a black cap with a nut-type top on it. You will need a 1 1/4 socket to remove it. You will also need to undo the 2 screws that hold your intercooler resevoir to the supercharger so you can have clearance to remove the filter. I suggest you go underneath the s/c and put your socket on first. Then it best to use at least 6 inches of extensions to get the rachet high enough to turn. The cap and filter come out as one. To get the filter off, Twist till it locks, and pull, it should come off. Then snap the new filter on the same way it came off. I suggest leaving the oil filter out while it drains so you can get all the oil out of the oil cooler. I use Penzoil Platnium synthetic oil. 6 quarts is what the book says, and that puts my level perfect. Hope this helps!! Just holler of you need anything else!

And no, changing your oil yourself will not void your warranty. Just make sure that you buy FULLY synthetic oil, not a blend, and use 5W-30 or 10W-30, depending on where you live.

Use Mobil1 like it says on the cap... that Pennzoil stuff is not on GMs list of oils for the Redline. Chances are it will never make a difference, but just so you know. I could be wrong about the list, but I'm pretty sure.

The bottle said it met or exceeded gm's expectations. Plus there would be no way that they could pull the oil out and say, hey dumbass, this isnt Mobil 1, this smells like pennzoil. That would be spooky though

They actually can. They most likely never would though, you're right. If you look at GM's list for the special oil requirements for the LSJ, which I have, I can almost promise you that the type of oil you're using is not on there. I'm not saying your engine will blow based on that fact, far from it. Just letting him, and you know.

Hmm....thats good to know, thanks! I saw the ad in Hot Rod magazine and they said it did all the fancy shit to your piston rings and cleaned better and all that jazz, but i guess next change I will stay with Mobil 1. No sense dicking with something when they tell you exactly what to get.

The list was posted here someplace, I could be wrong, I have been before! I mean, the chances of anything EVER happening to your car for it is VERY slim, if at all.

So if they ever get huffy over something like that, ill tell them they can have their car back! I just cant belive they only have 3 oils listed in the synthetic section, out of all the great oils that are there. GTX, Redline, Amsoil, Quaker state, Pennzoil, thats just weird!
