Ok going to check on a 96 T/A tomorrow

Well looked at a 96 T/A auto, black (which i wanted) but no t-tops It has 80k on it and they want 6,900. I think i can get them to 6k at least. Its pretty nice..first time i ever sat in one and i love it!! I mean its a 96 so it isnt perfect. Going to take the stang down tomorrow and see..But if i can pull it off, my total loan will be as much as i have now left on the stang and if i can get a better rate i might save money each month. Also my insurance will be about 30 bucks cheaper a month.I got on f-body.com and got some info. Found out the LT1 is a BITCH to change the plugs and wires and distributor which the recommend since the optispark last about 100k so ill go ahead and do it. My question is..i am going froma 98 with 62 to a 96 with 80k. I know a guy with a 98 GT running 12s on a stock bottom end with a stock auto tranny. Car is modded of course but it has 125k on it. I will be driving this T/A about 5k a year like the stang and maybe 2 or 3 times at the track. I want to get a few small mods..airfoil etc. A catback, CAI and maybe gears to get me mid 13s and il be happy. Is this car gonna last me 120k+ with proper maintenance and still run strong? I know stuff happens but the general concensus with the 4.6 it is a good engine. I know the 350 has been a popular motor for Many many years so i have faith in it. If i pull it off...yes..i am officially a traitor. But ill keep it..get my new job that makes more, pay the sucker off and get me an 03/04 cobra

you'll have no problem with the miles on th t/a. 350's are strong. My buddy has a 95 z28 with 180k and still running strong with just regular maintenance. Also you can adjust the ecu and the trans shift points and get some serious kick out of it stock

my lt1 has 120k on it and I would trust it to drive across the country tommorow. Skip the airfoil get a CAI (helps a ridiculous ammount on these cars for some reason) long tubes and a cat back...oh and a stall. That will put you low 13's high 12's. The plugs are stupid hard to do and I hope to never have to change mine again. Plug access is way better with longtubes BTW which is another good reason to get them

I use www.madz28.com for tuning. Ion knows his stuff and its only a bit over $100 for a tune.

Cool thanks guys for all the help. I hope i can get it. I love my stang..but i wanna change for a while so i hope i dont get turned down. If i do ill ask my loan bank that i have mine now. I mean i be basically borrowing the same amount of money i owen them now and i have payed it every month and been a good customer to them so i dont see why not. Yes i will def look at a tune for the auto. I know my tune plus jmod on my auto now made it kick some ass and makes the tranny last longer. I would think the same rule would apply for any auto. Maybe with tax return ill get some long tubes and do the plugs all at the same time. I know the headers on the 4.6 are crazy to change..i dunno about this car tho. Its that or change it all and do the CAI and tune.

Ok cons: Visibility inside the car is very poor compared to the mustang. I am sure you get used to it but first impression its poor. Also the automatic shifts slow and soft but so did mine at first. So not really a con just needs modded! Also there is the hump in the floorboard of the passenger seat where the cat converter is, kinda makes that side not very roomy. Ohh and i dont like how the steering wheel is shaped, feels funny but thats another thing u get used to. There is many and all that i named u would get use to. They arnet enough to keep me from getting it if i can. The one i was in didnt have power seat eithe which i am used to and like

Pros. The way it feels sitting in it, almost cramped but cozy and like a cockpit. The 5.7 sounds good, and i assume it was stock exhaust. It still sounded pretty sweet. I know my stock stang was quiet and it now sounds really good, just a diferent sound. Are these cars kinda loud with stock exhaust? If not ican imagine some exhaust on it would sound sweet! The seats are way more comfy then my leather stangs (the t/a had cloth seats) and they hold u in nice. I like the placement of the shifter and u seem very safe tucked up in there. All in all i like it, and i want a T/A but if this guy doesnt get back with me on this one, ill keep trying to i get sumthen!! Thats how i got my stang now, i had to keep rying and finally they pulled sumthen off. I am gonna go look at a 97 z-28 today with 59k on it so less miles and a lil newer. Still auto and it has t-tops tho. I wanna see how it is sitting in this car. I got back in my stang yesterday and altho the T/A ran strong just seems the stang is more smoother, engine wise but i dunno. I didnt get to romp on the T/A to see the power difference.

Look around for a 98 LS1 with those miles, it may be about $2grand more expensive but is way more worth it. The optispark is very expensive to replace and they do go bad fairly often- They are around $1000. Secondly, the water pumps in the LT1's are very expensive and also fail around the 100k mark, I think its because its a reverse flow or something. The LT1 is a great engine, and will easily outperform the 4.6 mod for mod. It is harder to work on since its so cramped. IMO I'd try and go for an LS1- stock they dyno 300+WHP and take to mods like an F/I car. Even with an auto you'll have a stock car that is in the 13's, put some drag radials and you will be in the 12's.
