A call to redline owners in the south east US

To make a long story short. the wife is in Lake Charles,LA. Hurricaine rita is heading that way. airports have been closed, so she has to drive. so a couple questions.

Anybody for the area recommnend a route northeast towards NC?

She said gas is not available in lake charles. Is it available elsewhere in the southeast?

time is of the essence, so speedy help is appreciated

I got some friends coming out of Texas. Interstates completly bogged down. I would say take state highways for best route until you get out of LA. Give me a few minutes and I'll see what I can dig up. About gas, should be ok when she gets out of major cities. Tell her to look a few miles past the exits that she takes. Most people are travelling through and tey aren't really looking since they are essentially lost. I would stick to highways for best results. Give me a sec

Best I can do, but I really have no idea what the traffic will be like. She could take HWY 165 north to I-49 north, but that will probably be heavy traffic there.

She could also take HWY 171 N all the way to Shreveport. Traffic will be heavy also, but I think it will be less than 165. Once she gets into S'port she needs to get onto HWY 71 N all the way out of LA into Texas. She can jump on I-30 at TexArkana, but there will be traffic as well. I don't know too many people from that area. I'll try to make some calls to get other recommendations. Good luck, both those hwys are major in Lake Charles and they will be crowded.

That's going to be a common route though. I hear that traffic is nasty here right now. Well, it doesn't look that bad. Check this link out for local traffic cameras in BR.

I don't know what is like from Lake Charles, but that may be worth a shot. Most people will be going north anyway. They know nothing is avaliable for them here.

Check out this camera.

That is coming into the city right before the Mississippi river bridge. Kinda nasty to me, but it may still be the best route.

I guess she is going to leave the rental car there and drive north with one of the girls she worked with and her parents. And either I will make a road trip to get her, or get her on a plane somewhere else.

thanks again for the info

I'd get her on the road ASAP. Its a mandatory evac there and traffic will suck everywhere
