Wow that sounds like a pretty good price. I just looked up in kelley's blue book real quick to see the values, and depending on if its in good or excellent condition, with around 50,000 miles, the value was between $12000-$15000.

Now is it a VR6 or 1.8T? The 1.8T can easily and quickly get a few ponies pumped out by pumping up its boost. But the VR6 can be upgraded to have some pretty nice numbers with a bit more money, by adding a turbo on it.

That's a great deal either way, unless there's some big problem with it that makes it $2500-5000 cheaper than what it's actually worth.

Its the Turbo GTI, not the VR6. And Can the boost be upped without any other mods? Just adjust the wastegate right? Thanks for the info guys!

My buddy has owned both the 1.8 Turbo and the VR6. He decided to stay with the VR6 because it is a lot faster. Although he also has a six-speed in his VR6. My RL really can't keep up very well with his VR6. He did like his 1.8 Turbo a lot though. I'm not sure how the 1.8T does against the RL.

Does your buddy's VR6 have a bit of mods on it? I've gone up against a couple modded VR6s, one of them being my friend's, and have had no pulling on them, dig, roll, whatever. I haven't run into a 1.8t yet, but my guess completely stock they would do even worse against a RL. The 6-cylinders in the VR6 help out big time with the extra torque their puttin down.

And the 1.8t's I hear get their boost upped easily by putting a new chip in it. Takes away the electronic boost limit (kind of like our computers controlling the supercharger's boost to 12.5psi).

Yeah stock for stock I don't see the Vee DuB 1.8 being much for an RL to shake off. And yes the boost shoots up nicely with the chip/flash. Night and day difference really. If your friend is considering one and wants to make it fast, tell him to be prepared to dump some good money into it. Parts are not cheap and it needs quite a bit of upgrade to go fast. They're a PAIN IN THE ASS to work on too. Still a nice car though and my brother seems more than happy with his.

Every 1.8T that I have raced lost horribly to me. Then again, im not really "stock", and most of them were.

yeah... stock for stock, the RL will/should easily pull from either a 1.8T or a VR6. Snuff, if you have a VR6 pulling from you, their probably not stock. Just a few weeks ago a buddy of mine in his VR6 GTI wanted to go... He got spanked pretty bad. And yeah, a chipped 1.8t will get up and go. Us RLs need to watch out for the chipped ones, lol. Until stages of course... (patiently waiting) Hey DRK, I have a buddy that has a chipped 1.8t, that i'm worried about going against, maybe I could run your brother sometime and see how i'd fair against one?? Let me know.
