Turbo Solstice

Anyone see this on Car and Driver? Do you think they are going to make a turbo version and s/c version?

From what I've read all around the place the SKY Redline is going to be a supercharged application producing in excess of 200hp/200trq according to " Jon Lauckner, General Motors’ global product planning boss" but I was the one that threw the turbo'ed solstice pics out there and I'm still wondering why they aren't going turbo

Wait I just read that article on the link and its says its a turbo so are they seriously going to make the Solstice GT a turbo and the SKY Redline a super! Gawd this is why GM is loosing money! Although it would be cool for saturns "new thing" to be all supercharged Redline Cars.

that honestly probably is part of the reasoning, if you have one redline that's a turbo, and another redline that's a supercharged, things would get a little confusing. And since the solstice is basically exactly the same car, sorta makes sense.

Although I would prefer the turbo on the sky myself, the sky is so much sexier

I don't believe BS car rag mag articles. I'll just say, I know testing is being done with turbo 2.0s.

I can't imagine they are making a s/c and turbo version. My guess is they are still testing both and not sure which they are going with. I doubt that the sky will be one, and the solstice will be the other. Thats not the GM way. I'd imagine its going to be the same engine (turbo or S/C) when its all said and done.

That would be great, making one with a blower, and one with a turbo. That appeals to everyone. What's stupid, to me, is making the exact same car, in two different exterior designs, for no apparent reason. If GM had made JUST the RL, or JUST the Cobalt, we'd have more aftermarket right now. You wouldn't be able to compare RL vs. Cobalt expected sales and choose which to support.

It makes far less sense, to me, for GM to make both cars identical. There are people, like me, that would buy the SC'd version of the Solstice/Sky without question. It would be nice to have a version of each, since the blown motor is well developed, and the turbo motor obviously exists...

If they went that route, i would like to have the choice of which engine. Like other car makers have done, give a variety of engines in dirfferent versions of the car. That would sell better thn anything IMO.

Company's don't think about the enthusiast when they decide on these things they think about "the dude" thats just wants a quick car and "the dude" doesnt care whether or not its super or turbo. Cheap speed is easiest with a turbo thats why most company's go that route. High hp + low cost = market segment winner. Also if there wasnt a cobalt we would have NO aftermarket cuz people don't care about saturns because "saturns suck" People, americans imparticular, are very brand concious when it comes to high price decisions. If saturn built the ferrari enzo everyone wouldn't care simply because its a saturn. It takes YEARS for a company to change its image, hell pontiac used to be for old people and porsche used to be economy cars but who stills thinks of those brand identity's when you mention either of those names. Saturn is being turned around but it doesnt matter about the cars it comes out with now, the sky and aura mean nothing, its all about what they continue to come out with in the future. Hence why companys create concept cars, not to actually make them but to remind people, "hey this is what we do and this is what were all about." Saturn has always done things different and has been ridiculed by the automotive community for doing so because of thier brand status in the market. When infinity introduced lane departure warning people said "hey cool" when mercedes made directed steering lights it was "hey cool" when saturn made a center console it was "this is retarded". All about image my friend. When they achieve a high brand status they will continue to innovate and will be praised for their achievments. But until then be proud you have a saturn that was at the beginning of a changing brand.
