Oddly enough I suggested that to my dealer and they said it could not be the tires. I felt a little bad at first when I first filled out the paperwork but after thinking about all the excuses and failed attempts to fix it I quickly got over that feeling.

clutch in, neutral. then to first.

it happend to me today i was going like 4 miles per hour and it didnt want to go into first, so i just put it in 2nd.

no biggie for me, its worse if its cold, but all manuals dont like 1st sometimes.

Give this a try...

When you're stopped and attempting to select first gear, you will normally have the clutch fully depressed and the brake depressed.

With your brake foot, tap the gas just a little with your toe (keeping the brake depressed!)... The engine will rev a little and you should be able to select first gear easily.

It's a little tough to get used to, so you might want to try it in a level parking lot first.

when that happens to me (at a stop) i just take and put it into second (if the ground is flat to the point where i cant roll) and move forward just a tad then it goes into first just as easy as any other gear. im assuming that when that does happend when you come to that stop its someting like the syncros or somthing that is not lineing up properlly so i just move a tad and it glids right in

Sounds like that's exactly the problem. Inching the car forward in second gear will get the synchro moving a little.

"Chirping" the gas as I describe above does the same thing. Spins the hell out of the synchro. It's essentially applying the same principles as heel and toe shifting to a stopped car. I always heel and toe shift, so it comes pretty natural if I can't get it into gear when stopped.

As someone states above, manuals do not like going into first that often. Sometimes with my mustang I had to slightly release the clutch, and it would drop right in. In California, our lemon law is 3 times and 18500 miles, so I missed mine by 600 miles, but they hooked me up with a 60K warranty no charge, so I lucked out! Good luck with the lemon law deal, they will fight you to the death with this issue.
