Angry Is Saturn going under?

Don't shoot me!

I am just wondering what people think. With GM in so much trouble, they are thinking about getting rid of Buick and/or Saturn to cut costs. (Similar to Oldsmobile)

Does anyone have any data other than scuttle but and late night news anchors trying to stir the pot? Is it for real? Are they going to shut down Saturn?

I wonder if they cut the Saturn line if they will be legally obligated to continue to honor the warranty, since it is a GM product?

I hope they try to spin Saturn off and let them try it on their own, but who knows?

Depending on how they structured Saturn, they may or may not be legally required to honor the Saturn warranty. However, it's common practice to hand off the warranty to someone else.

If GM stopped honoring warranties from closed divisions, the consumber backlash would be pretty devastating.

Yes, Saturn is being eliminated from the line.

The name will continue on the imported division of Opel as a rebadge.

Partly ture. Yes they will essentially be Opel North America rebranded as Saturn but it's more than just a rebranding. It eill use a lot of Opel parts and be heavily influenced by Opel design but they will still be designed slitly different and manufactured separately.

Saturn is not going away, and anyone who thinks so is mentally retarded. Saturn is one of the few GM namplates that is actually a good bit of vehicles.

Quite a harsh statement.

But your keyword: nameplate - doesn't mean its a real Saturn. They're Opels now called Saturn. They're applying a reputable name to an existing line of GM products which don't have a good reputation over seas. Ask any European you know.

And no, I'm not mentally retarded.

No jd you are not a retard. And yes if you want to get technical the Saturn as we know it is changing. Saturn is intergrading into GM completly, so yes are cars will start being an offspring of other gm models. Such as the saturn relay van is the same as 2 other gm vans, except for the badge and grill. the new small car is rumored to be a version of an opel. And the sky gets its looks from an opel.

ok here it is.. offical GM info about saturn from a saturn worker

saturn will not get cut at all... right now if GM was to cut out all the companies not needed.. only 2 would be left... Cadillac and saturn...

reasons:

saturn helps to bring in people who normally go and look at honda's and toyota's

no other GM company attracts import buysers like saturn does... in which case saturn is highly prized by GM for that

SAturn within the next 4 years will have 7 new modles.. counting the re-make of the ion and the hybrid of the VUE

Saturn is one of only 3 other Gm companies to be reciving more new models.. as opposed to other branchs losing models

saturn buildings are the newest and nicest buildings out of GM buildings.. They have better locations and better facilitys then other Gm shops

right their are a few good reason as to why saturn will not be going anywhere.. saturn as a company may change their perception but they will not be cut
