Could someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese give me a better example of over the top platform sharing than that! This is the EXACT reason GM is going down.

btw thats going to be the most bad ass roadster when it gets here. What kinda car ANYWHERE close to its price range will beat it. NOTHING!

can't view it at work.... but alpha you do realize opel is the overseas version of the combined GM brands right? it's not 'sharing' anything, it's finally bringing that version to us :P. It's not like it's attainable in the USA. Personally I think it took them too long, but that's not really platform sharing as it's the overseas version (sorta like saying the Acura NSX stole from the Honda NSX :P)

EVERY car company does it... VW/Audi, Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infinity, etc, etc, etc...

How about an Altima and a Maxima... that's about as close as you get right there. Audi A4 and a Passat? There's tons of examples, and it dosen't hurt most of those companies.

BTW, GM sold more cars last year than in any other, 9.5 million. Going down is subjective to some people...

You know what im talking about. Kinda like GM has too of the SAME brands oversees. Opel and Vauxhaul are the EXACT same cars with no differences. Holden is a copy of those 2 brands and GM should just take all thier brand names away and just call all thier cars GM's. They would save a TON of money on not having to make 19 different badges and nameplates for the same car.

That production line in Deleware is going to be busy busy busy building....three variations of the same car? The demand for ALL of them is definetely more than what they can make right now...so good luck getting one anytime soon...

I would agree with you if both the Sky and Opel were going to be sold in North America but they are not. The variants that are going to be sold in NA are very different looking.

I have to disagree with you here too. All those brands are sold in different contries so it is not a bad thing. I think if GM were to buy up those European brands and then kill the name it would cause resentment and lost sales. How would you feel if Diamler killed the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep nameplates when they bought them? That would be enough for me to not ever buy a product from that company.

I know exactly what you're talking about, however, you have not addressed the fact that all the import companies do the same thing, with much sucess. Plus, almost every car you've mentioned isn't even sold here. Of course they should sell the car in all markets, if its a good car.

What if every car company did it?
Would you go and ride the Amish Buggy GT

I agree companys need subsidaries for different brand images but seriously when you make 2 cars that are EXACTLY the same it get to be a little gay. Other company's at least make some sort of attempt at changing the car. 350 and G35 you can tell are the same car but at least the have thier own distinct styling. Maxima's and Altimas, while having the same face, have different enough bodies to know there its a different car. Kinda like the 525 and 725 BMW's. All I'm saying is if you wanna sell a Saturn oversees at least give it a different hood or bumper or just, lmao, SOMETHING!!!

They're just catering to a wider variety of consumers. For example, there are plenty of die hard Pontiac people who will buy the Solstice, but wouldn't buy a Saturn just because of the name. And same goes vice-versa too. + one car may be more appealing to some people and others may prefer the other styling. Personally I like the way the Sky looks better, but my boss at work is a total pontiac freak (has a 71 GTO and a 68 LaMans) and he would definetly get the Solstice, but not the Sky, just because they took classic pontiac styling cues and the Solstice would fit in and match his other Pontiacs.
