Talking Down Price

What are some tips I could use in talking down the price on a 2004 Black RL with 20k miles on it? The dealership is asking for $16999. I looked around for prices and I've found some farther away for like $14000 with only 20k miles on them as well. But I really like the black RL's. Are there some things I could say to bring the price down?

Like the resale value, various possible problems, compare with other dealerships, if you want the car gone I'll take at a lower price, etc.

$17,000 for a USED '04?!?! My dealer has a BRAND NEW '05 on their lot with $18,000 on it. Do your research and find some cheaper ones to use as leverage. Remember, Saturn doesn't really haggle on NEW cars. Used cars are completely wide open. Good luck!

The dealership its at is a used dealership which mainly sells Dodge's and Mazda's.

I can only find like 3 RL's in my area. But good point on the new RL for only $18k. Gotta keep looking.

EDIT: On Carmax I found a red '05 with only 8k miles on it for only $15k buts it in Orlando, transferable for $450.

Yeah, I paid about 17 for mine new back in 04. What part of MD are you? I got mine at Saturn of Elicott City (mile one). I would just tell them that you can only afford X amount and if they want to take it, give you a call. That's what I did and they said no, then they called me back and let it go for my price on new years eve The guy who sold it to me was named Ed Spencer I think...I believe his email is <ed@mileone.com> Maybe give him a chance, he might be able to hook you up with something, tell him Lance refered you, and you want a deal like I got. Just make them an offer on the used one and keep looking, the more people at more dealerships you get intrested, the better deal you can get...patience and being stubborn is the key. Good luck!

I agree with Watts. I'd do some research, and then make them an offer you think is fair. If they look at you like your stupid, just say, "well, I can have one shipped from (insert place here) for (say) $15,000, and it would only cost me $500 to ship it" and then walk away. Trust me, you can find a better deal. Heck, at $17k, I'd be looking for an '05 with the comp pkg.

I know I would! I've had an eye out for the comp pkg, and they can not be had for under 20 - 21 K (new) around here.

An 04 for $16999?!!

Don't even bother with that. I know a an 06 Red Line WITH the competition package, and 4300 miles, that recently sold for $16,995. Deals like that are few an far between though, and most dealer try to sell these cars really high when they are used. Honeslty you are almost better off buying new.
