general insurance rates

i just wanted to know what i could be looking at with one of these. im 20, on my parents insurance plan right now b/c i cant afford it alone.

right now there are two kids (18, and 20) and two adults, everyone has a totally clear record. now my sister will be in school and not be near a car (same situtation that im in now) and i will be taking the redline back and forth to school. the car will again be on my parents insurance, even though i guess me being 200 miles away i have to be the primary on the car.

have insurance companys finally figured out the diff between these and other ions? i remember a long time ago ppl were getting great rates on them b/c insurances companys couldnt tell the diff between these and ion 3s.

thanks for your help,
Mike

A big factor for insurance is where you live. Hard to estimate insurance for you when we don't know what insurance rates are like where you live. Just for an example, rates in Philadelphia PA are more than double what they would be in the Pittsburgh, PA area on the same car.

I previously owned a 02 SC2 and it was classified a 14 on their insurance scale, pretty decent. When I traded that in and got the 04 RL the insurance didnt go up much for me. It is classified and rated a 16 through them. Very low compared to some in the mid/upper 20's for most "performance" cars. Higher the #, higher the $.

I would suggest just calling your agent and discussing it with them!

Good luck to you.

altoona!! you know bedford then .

altoona, penn state?

but nah that won't help at all, and if you live in fairfax, ewwwww i'd be guessing 2 grand then, i'd just have your insurance company give you a quote, if you live in fairfax though it'sg oing to be hefty.

I agree with saturndan...there is no proper way of estimating how much your insurance will be. I mean hell, I'm 21, have a $20,000+ claim when I totaled a brand new Tiburon V6 6 Speed and two tickets on my insurance record make me high risk and I pay a $1300 every 6 MONTHS just for my RL!!! Oh and believe me, they have the difference set. I also have an 04 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, which both of my cars are full coverage and before the multiple policy discount, the GP was only $40 more every 6 months. The good student discount is good to have but only saves about $30 every 6 months. I have the good student but it doesn't do much help when your premium is a little over $2000 every 6 months. Its very much about location because I was looking into moving to Chicago and it would have almost doubled my insurance.

I'm sorta confused why you're shocked by that 1300 every 6 months with that driving history. Honestly I think you're getting off pretty nicely ;p Grand Prix was probably more expensive because at the heart the RL is still a saturn, cheap repairs, etc etc.

but yea talk to your insurance company. My bet is fairfax is going to be one of the more expensive areas out there

luckily you'll be getting all sorts of discounts by staying underneath your parents, but still expect 2000-2500 every year.
