K&N Questions, Warrenty

Iam looking for an intake to put on. I am leaning towards the K&N typhoon, but when I asked Saturn of Clarkston, they said that the filter oil on them clogs sensors and things. Therefore they are voiding the entire drivetrain on cars equiped with the K&N. They told me that they had already had two cars come in with that problem. Can any one help me out w/ this?

They cannot void your entire drivetrain based on that fact. You can ask Wop for more, and better info, or you can print out a copy of the Manguson-Moss warranty act, and ask their service manager to explain how the intake can void the entire drivetrain warranty. That's total crap.

Thanks for that, I will for sure print that out and take it to the dealer. Would stripping all the oil off the filter and putting a light coat of oil of myself infront of someone at the dealership help as well?

No, it seems your dealership is either making their own interpretation of the rule, or Saturn has changed it. I really doubt they've changed it. Now, if you have an issue with something in the engine, and they can demonstrate that oil from the filter caused the car to run rich/lean, and that caused the catalytic converter to go bad, they could make you pay to replace it. If you're transmission falls apart, it would be an interesting explanation as to how the possiblility of oil on the MAF sensor cause 3rd gear to become stripped...

Not going to help. Looks like you have a stubborn dealer. It WILL help YOU though. By making sure the MAF doesn't get all mucked up and destroyed as they can deny warranty coverage for that part.

Magnuson Moss Warranty act is a wonderful thing. Dealerships all try to be tough and you just have to put em in their place.

Saturn of Clarkston has been great to me. Of course I only had my car in there when it was stock. I wonder what they could make up about the Weapon-R intake ......the foam filter probably causes the tires to leak

TMRRedline, Do you have springs on your RL?

just make sure (for personal sanity) that you strip all oil off the filter and then a light coat on the outside only. this will help you eliminate the possiblities that could/would bring if your check engine light came on.

Hey, Saturn of Clarkston is my dealership. They have been pretty ok in the past but I think they got a new service manager or something. The last time I took my car in their for an oil change he was a total PRICK to me. And my car is STOCK! When I asked him about TSB's and what not he just said "well you need to call and schedule an appointment for that stuff" and turned away. I wasn't even done talking....and I was just INQUIRING about them. Not trying to get my car updated or anything.

So please let me know about how the whole K&N thing goes. I am saving to get a CAI in the spring after winter but if they are going to be total pricks I can wait until warrenty is up.
