Adjust your Ladder Tach Lights Adjust your Ladder Tach Lights

Here are the instructions for adjusting your ladder tach lights per GM. I know everyone has these instruction in their car but I have seen a lot of questions regarding the the ladder tach on the forum.

The boost gage is equipped with three pairs of lights that are located on each side of the gage. These lights are used to indicate three different engine rpm levels.

The default settings are as follows.

Lower pair of lights - 4400 rpm
Middle par of lights - 5600 rpm
Top pair of lights - 6200 rpm.

These settings can be adjusted by turning the stem behind each light. To have the light pair come on at a higher rpm level turn the stem counterclockwise. To have the light pair come on at a lower rpm level, turn the stem clockwise. Each turn adjust the settings by 100 rpm.

To resort the default settings, press and hold any stem for three seconds. The lights will flash three times.

To turn the lights off or on, press and release any stem.

(Concerning orientation)

Is that when you're sitting in the car looking at it & reaching behind, OR if you had the boost gauge off the car & the back of it directly in front of you????

Do you turn a bolt to the left to tighten it when it is facing away from you? jk he he

Well I guess you kinda do but don't think of it that way!

Pretend like you had the gauge off the car and the back was facing toward you.

Well I didn't know man....they could've meant if you were sitting in the car looking at it, but whatever

Cool & thanks!!
Makes it easier because I didn't wanna adjust it first & then go drive the heck out of the car to see if the light would come on...lol

That is why I wrote up the instructions. In another thread someone gave some advise to start turning the dials and then road test it! There were just too many reasons why that was wrong..

7000. It is generally accepted that the tach on the RLs read about 200 rpms low. Mine is off buy just over 150rpms as compared to the readings from my Interceptor scan gauge. If you don't have a scan gauge you should always add 150-200 rpms to your stock tach to figure out your actual number.

So the stock tach should be at 7,100-7,200-ish when the engine hits the limiter (on Stage flash)??
