How To: Boost Bypass Mod

There are many boost bypass that people have used and many people use the wrong ones hence the common misconception that the boost bypass mod does not work. The poser mods are these:

Bypass 1:Plugging the line coming from the actuator to the solenoid and leaving the solenoid nipple open to

Yes, 100% stock. I have a feeling with other mods, the boost mod "could" show an increase. I'm used to turbos, this is my first S/C, so it seems the limiting factor here is more the pully size (S/C RPM) rather than wastegate or bypass adjustment via MBC (Manual Boost Controller) or "bleed" type disconnections.

Ok I figured it out. Just for testing I jammed a pen in there and took it for a drive (the pen canister was full of ink at the end from the constant pressure).

Without a boost gauge or before and after dyno results... the only thing I can say is it feels a little faster and the response after shift fealt a little better. Until I get numbers it's just subjective.

Couple quick questions.
Why was the bypass mod determined no to be a good mod a while ago (early version of the mod)? Was it codes? Was it just bad for the car? Unreliable driving experience?

Any harm in keeping it like that?

See, I thought the same thing...it seemed to have more power. After seeing the results on the dyno charts though, I started to doubt it.

My butt dyno says yes, but Dynojet says no.

The only thing that I could think in the difference between the 2 mods is that the one that you are using spooner will not allow the actuator to move freely when the engine pulls a vaccum on the other side. Where if you use the one alpha is talking about, it still lets the actuator move freely since the line isn't plugged. Spooner's way might be good for the track since it limits the amount of movement of the actuator , but not so good for everyday driving. I just wonder since the other side of the actuator has vaccum going to it to bypass the boost, would the car be faster out of the hole if the bypass were closed all of the time. I am just talking about at the track, it would not be practical for driving around town.

There was never clear, reliable, non-subjective data. The only hard data I EVER saw. Was from Alpha, and then GuidoTSi (just recently). Alpha's was track times. Guido was stock. To my knowledge, there aren't any other dynos where people were messing with the boost mod. Maybe from that jmc007 (I think that's it), he gave ALOT of dynos...

Alot of people have believed in it from day one, but since it was such an argument, I think people just agreed to disagree on it.

For some reason your Dyno links aren't working for me.

ok i just did the bypass mod. I went out with my friends wrx which i knew who i could not beat, but i wanted to test up against somthing.

STOCK - from a 50 roll, both in 3rd gear- by the time i hit 5krpms i was at his back bumper

BYPASS MOD - from a 50 roll, both in 3rd gear - by the end of 3rd gear, i was had about a 1/2 car on him. But by the time we both hit 4th, he started to pull like normal.

(Just to let everyone know, its a stage 2 WRX, so dont think i cant beat a stock rex.)

So it worked better for you then??

Also, guys I'm not trying to sell something here just trying to help my fellow RL'ers out. If you don't want to believe me, sp00ner and the rest of the free world then thats cool but when you get whooped by stock type-S make sure you don't tell him your a RL so you don't embarass the rest of us
