1) jack up car to get under to remove the oil drain plug. (15mm i think, isnt that the normal size?) make sure you have an oil pan ready.
2)let that drain and get up and stand on the left side (driver side) And remove the 2 bolts holding the coolant filler neck at the front of the car off so I could move it outta the way. *Sp00ner: Also, remove the two electrical connectors that are behind the supercharger, and will be in the way of the socket in the next step* 3)with your left hand maneuver the 1 1/4" (32mm) socket under the supercharger. Takes a little finesse to get it on there. 3) look from the top down and insert at least a 6" (?) long extension down there and unscrew it. 4) Remove the extension and reach under there to pull off the socket. 5)Then remove the cap (the filter is going to come with it)...Repeat in reverse order for install. 6) dont forget to put the oil drain plug back in and tighten it down. 7) after everything is reinstalled, insert ~6 to 7 quarts of oil. first enter 6 then start then shut off let it settle ~ 4-6 mins then check level and enter more if needed. 8) PUT VALVE COVER OIL CAP BACK ON. and then start the car and then shut off let settle and check again and if needed add more if not then CLEAN up yo shit and last step: go in car, press trip meter button once, then hold for 5 seconds till it beeps to reset the oil change reminder message. |

p.s.
if you got big hands and arms like me then you may also undo the coolant system resevoir or whatever. its 2 10 mm bolts and it pushes gently to the left out of the way without disrupting anything. saves a lot of aggravation |

You dont have to remove the electrical connectors, they are not really in the way if you have a 6" extension. Just pull the filter out from the front, below the t/b (as long as you moved the radiator overflow tank). Which reminds me, if you bend the coolant overflow tank over too many times, the hose will start to crack. |

Just changed my oil for the first time. Boy do I want to kick the ass of the GM engineer who put the filter in that location. End of rant...
I had trouble getting the filter out from under the SC. I have wire bundles in the way. Was a real pita to get it out between hitting assorted metal parts and the wire bundles. Does everyone else have these in the way, or just me? Does it come out easily for everyone else? Do you pull the filter/cap out together with the cap first? I did remove the coolant reserve BTW. Note: The oil filter came out much easier on the second oil change. Still a pain, but much faster than the first time. Last edited by Big Knight : 03-31-2007 at 04:35 PM. |

Both together to remove for me on a '06. It just takes some finess as Spoon would say and a little missing skin along with a few cuss & swear words. They do come out adn go back in in 20 minutes for me. Now someone needs to carve out a few caps with AN fittings so we can do a remote filter setup.
