Pics of my 2000-2003 Cav short shifter installed on my 04 RL

Well I did it, I really couldn't pay 350 bucks for a B&M.........well especially since I am trying to save for a house, so I broke down and mod'd a 20 dollar Cav shifter.......it wasn't that hard, it pretty much fit, just needed a couple things built for it.

First thing is the reverse lockout, needed to make a new steel piece, since it didn't match the cav's location, that wasn't hard at all, pic to follow

Next was the side leaver, where it mounts into the activating arm. The cav has a .550 bushing, or there abouts, where we need a .700 bushing, my solution, epoxy a 13mm 6 point 1/4 drive socket........ghetto but it works, and worked REALLY well, there is less play than the stock shifter. Pic to follow.

Here are the pics of it installed, I haven't seen any proper B&M installed pics so I don't know how the height compares to the proper shifter. But I love the height of this shifter, and the movement is SO crisp and clean

Not toooooo shabby eh?

$350 for a B&M SS!?!?! WHERE do YOU shop???

You can get them for $150 - just look around a little.

Looks good, but I'd be worried about functionality more than looks on a makeshift unit like that...if it works, cool, if not I don't have any issues dropping $150 for the REAL thing.

Canadian here..............conversion, and paying for shipping even from ebay and I am looking at 200. Even at local shops, when they aren't on sale they want 350, when they go on sale, I am looking at 280.

As for functionallity, I don't have any worries about my work.........Most of you might not recognize me, but I have been building custom stuff for the last 6 years. Including a 2000 SL1 showcar, a 1998 SW2 drag car, and now my RL, I have also done lots of short shifters for S's in the local area, TONS of fibreglassing, also built tower bars, including the one on my RL. Does everyone really like the short-shifter? Does it really lower the shift throw a lot and how does it help? Never had a short shifter...I totaled by Tiburon before anyone released one for the 6 speeds...

I felt the throw on the B&M, and to be honest, I was a bit disapointed. The stock shifter is not really that short. It is short when compared with the standard quad coupe shifter. But up against shifters in other sport compacts, it is still long feeling. The Acura TSX is much shorter.

The short shifters available for many other cars make it incredibley short compared to the RedLine shifter. I was waiting on Hurst, but gave up. they have given different people different stories, about availability and time lines and even if they are still going to make it or not.

The B&M appears the only factory option, and it just wasn't that much shorter feeling.

I like the coppertop shifter, looks clean.

Whats the story on those springs listed? Canadian thing, or moded factory springs? Tower brace looks great also, looks like three pieces?
