But putting it in the engine bay and subjecting it to equivalent temps doesn't hurt it none? Hmm.... Not being a smart ass, but cooking a coating on and running it hard like you stole it generate close to the same temps don't they?

Good point, good question, however ...

- The underhood temps get to ~130C ... The powdercoating we use is processed at ~200C so that the underhood temps dont melt the coating off or darken the pigment.
- When under full load and generating max power is not when the supercharger is hottest ... it has lots of air flowing through it to keep it cooler. It is hottest after a hard run and then parked with the engine off (heat soak).
- When we powdercoat, the unit is raw (not machined).
- When the engine/supercharger is hot, the supercharger is kept 'more' dimensionally stable as it is mounted to the manifold (also hot) ... they support each other.

Hope this helps ...

Consider how you use a torque plate when boring or honing a cylinder as well.

IMHO, Harrop could offer just about anything they wanted to as they could do the coatings before they machine work. However, that would just be adding more and more cost at our end.

What bothers me most, is that most the thermal barriers I have access to need to be apply with similiar heat, and to be used effectively would have to be used AFTER the machining procedures, and thus, excessively costly to implement. Thus, I'm hoping for the possibility of a phenolic spacer between the supercharger and intake manifold. Combined with an intake manifold with thermal barriers applied, we'd have a decent way of keeping temps even lower.

Never done that process before. Seen it on shows before, but never really knew what was what.

Pick up a book at B&N on engine machining or engine blue printing or engine building. Heck, just stay there and read it in the store if you'd like. There's lot to learn in those types of places.

I wonder how much blood/sperm I would have to sell to get this s/c?

im wondering if we will be able to stick with the 42.5's and still see gains significant enough to warrant not pushing this blower to the point where 60's or larger injectors will be needed.

I think you might be able to pull off running 42's with a return-style system and a huge pulley on this thing and see slight gains, but, really, it doesn't seem worthwhile to spend this kinda of money ($2200) for small gains.

thats why i worded the question the way i did. im well within reach of my 300-315whp goal with this car as it is. I dont think ill be going the tvs route. i have a few last mods i want to do(mostly head work), then im done with this car. Once shes paid off im gonna start a new project on a platform that yeilds more power per dollar spent... know what i mean?
