Saturn Overhauling The 2009 Ion

The Saturn Ion is due for an overhaul. Created as GM’s answer to the import compact, its build and quality problems have plagued it, and its design hasn’t delivered the import-lovers. In 2008, scheduled to hit dealerships perhaps in 2009, GM wants to change all of that with the new Ion — or Evoke, as GM says might be the vehicle’s new name. GM will phase the current Ion (pictured) out at the end of 2006, leaving a good chunk of time for the brand to go without a compact sedan.

Based on the Chevy Cobalt, GM says that its new styling direction will take cues from the Opel Vectra to better attract the elusive import crowd. Moving the car’s production away from Spring Hill means that the vehicle will probably replace its plastic panels with steel sheetmetal, to boot.

its a saturn... guess.

go on ebay and look for short lived, low selling vehicles from less than popular makers, you will find that save for super cars(lambo, ferarri, etc), these cars' resell value has vastly depriciated. Crap now some smart 40 something mofo is gunna reply with some super smart list-o-facts that totally debunks my retarded theory. Oh well...

that's exactly what I was wondering. That's part of why I bought my RL instead of waiting for the Cobalt. I mean, something like 2500 or so made in 04.

What you say is generally true. Look at Merkur, Sterling, Catera, etc.

But I'm not sure the RL will suffer that fate. As long as Cobalt SC remains viable, it should drag the RL along with it. Does the Eagle Talon have any less interest than its twins? Thats my theory anyway.

What does concern me is body/interior parts support. My dad owns a Reatta which is holding its value well but many of the unique parts have been dsicontinued for some time.

yeah but GM has pushed the cobalt alot more. Alot more have been made, and alot more have been bought due to supply and demand. More people trust the chevy name more then the saturn ive found out. Yes same engines, and IMO better looks, but its the little emblem that fucks us over

I'll be really curious to see what the fate of the RL is.... the reason all the other exceptions to cars not depreciating is because the cars were popular *while they were in production*. e.g. supra, talon, etc. the RL however isn't. BUT the SS is, so will the SS truly keep it in resale value? or will the RL just drop off the map? time will tell :P

Oh Kay

Alright, I don't know about you guys but... I bought my redline for 15G's which is a lot yes... I had 7G's down (aug.05... come on im only 20...) on it and still owe 7G's... I mean I could have gotten a camero for the money that would smoke the redline, but I wanted a good car! Our car is very nice and even without mods... is very FUN. I am not looking to battle a sister company over a car we had first, and the emblem ... yes made this car go down 5 G's in just a year! But hey, say whatever you want about our cars. I will have this car for a LONG TIME and will smile everytime I get into it.
