Newbie Here

Hey im a newbie to the red line, saw a car on the lot this weekend and was looking online to check out some info and found some but i figured it couldnt compare to people who actually own the car. I currently own a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 and i realize im losing power if i switch to the Ion, but i like the looks of it better and it pry handles A LOT better. Any info on cars around the Iowa area for sale, and any info about the car would be helpful. Thanks all.

Well, you will loose some straight line go, no arguement here.

$500 - $600 for GM's Stage 2, or Intense upgrade, gets you up to around 245whp though, which is very comparible to a lightly modded SRT4... No BS, the SRT4's have more support to go faster. I know several people with them, and have become somewhat familiar with the power levels available to you guys.

We do handle better, IMO, but if you spend enough on the SRT it will handle very well also, but I'd like to think that we have a better starting platform in terms of handling. The brakes on the car are outstanding as well.

Obviously we're partial!

Srt

The SRT is fun dont get me wrong in a straight line, but i want something that gets better gas mileage than my car does and still has a little bit of power...dunno how about MPG of the red line but it pry is better, my car currently gets like 16-18 in the city and like 25-27 on the highway, which is horrible and i dont even beat on it

Hehe... some people gas milage in that area... I usually get at least 20 city, and have seen 31 on the highway, even though the car says like 28... I don't drive in a manner that produces good mileage though.

Welcome to the forums. It would be nice to see someone sell the SRT and get the IRL for a change. Most people just want to go fast and don't care about all the rest that makes up the 'total package', if you are one of us who cares more than just straight line fast, you will probably like the RL alot. Also you might want to look into the "Competition package", it has a boost guage/ladder tack (which isn't a big deal to add), gunmetal wheels and foglights, (also no biggie) but the best thing about it is the Limited Slip Differential! IMO all RL's should have been equipped with the LSD because it will really help get the power to the ground. I wish I knew about the comp pkg when I got mine 'cause I would have got it for sure.

well hello there. yes the srt4 is faster for now. but keep in mind that a lot of us are working to change that. and now is an awesome time for the redline. many parts are coming out for us now.
What are your intrests? do you drag, road course, or just daily drive? the answers to those questions will result in your answer as to get a redline or stay with the srt4. the cars are very compairable from what I have seen.

Welcome 2 RLF man and hope you choose to roll with the Redline.
I have been with Saturn fam for a couple year starting out with an SC2(lightly modded) traded in for an an '04 ION quad (wit celica gt spoiler & cold air intake - lightly modded) and finally last yr sprung a '05 Redline for full out performance and never been unsatisfied with it. Yes the SRT-4's have some performance advance over us, like rice eater mentioned, in due time our performance will match.

Well, in general I think the Ion is a better built, better equipped, and more comfortable car in it's base trims than the Neon.

And in general I think that hold true with the SRT-4 and Redline models. I think the Redline is better built, better equipped, more comfortable, and FAR more reliable than an SRT-4. I've driven many an SRT-4 and I hated them. So I eventually chose the Redline. I think the exterior appearance of the Redline also is far better than the SRT-4. Someting about those bug-ass headlights and huge gaping front grille just looks dumb to me. I know they were trying for a Viper-esque appearance, but IMHO they failed miserably.

These are just my opinions though. Stock for stock, the Redline is a better car. And we're slowly closing the gap in the mod department. Soon there will be redlines and cobalt ss/sc's all over the place that are keeping up with Evo's, STi's, and SRT-4's with no problems at all...
